All good things...
Some of you guys never read the news so I figured I'd mention it here too.
Volition Wath is closing. No doubt quite a few of you are going to be in for a shock with this annoucement and maybe some of you aren't as surprised as you thought you might be.
Back in December of 1997 I saw my very first advertisement for Descent: FreeSpace and I was hooked almost right away. A game that combined the fast action of Wing Commander with the depth of play of TIE Fighter was a surefire winner and we all know that it was. In 1998, I made my first FreeSpace themed website and it served as the basis for FreeSpace Watch and the creation of this network to cover all of the Volition games.
Its now 2004 and things have changed. Most of us are older now with new responsibilities and new interests. Our time here in this community is up. We've had a fantastic time running this website but as with all good things...they come to an end.
We'd like to thank the legions of loyal visitors to our website, we'd like to thank the additional staff that have helped us from time to time, and we'd like to thank the members of our hosted teams for working with us and being as much a part of this network as everyone else. Above all else we'd like to thank our host Telefragged for making Volition Watch and all of our subsites (and especially VW Archive which went above and beyond the call!) possible and for allowing us the freedom to be a part of this great community.
Our site is closing but our friends and neighbors at HardLight Productions continue on. Many of the familiar and unfinished projects that existed here will continue on there.
Volition Watch will remain available for an undetermined period of time. We won't be posting any new content so you are still welcome to enjoy our Volition Art section, read our interviews and articles, and search our forums for helpful hints.
Thanks to everyone!

I have to admit that I have been expecting this for almost a year now. Out of all the B5 TCs/Mods this one seemed the most promising but alas has once again proven to be too much an ambitious project to be completed. So I'm not surprised at all at this announcement.
I was at least expecting to see the 2.1 patch released before the final doors were closed, that is the most disappointing thing for me. I downloaded R2 but never played it due to the campaign problems and inability to play R1, I was waiting for the fix to this in R2.1 before finally reinstalling FS2 and seeing what the new release had to offer. Now I guess I never will play it.
Thanks to the team for all their hard work, good luck in whatever you guys do after you leave.
Sincerely,
Joe

In simple words: TBP is moving house to HLP, not closing.

Sorry for the mixup and thanks for the clarification. Well it's great to hear you guys are still going ahead, I admit I got a bit confused when Ice said that there are new interests and time with the community is up (I understood the FS2 community) so I thought the project was being closed. Disregard all the squabble I said then...except the thanks for your hard work, keep that

We need to pimp the fact that R3 will work as a stand alone on every single Babylon 5 site we can get.
IIRC release 2 was also stand alone but got very little interest for some odd reason. Maybe it's cause a lot of people thought that they needed FS2 to play it (The irony is not lost on me )
I'd suggest we put up a seperate page for the stand alone version with lots of pictures etc to draw people in and links to the forum etc. And in very small letters at the bottom we say that it's an FS2 mod
Let people find out that it's a mod AFTER they've tried it

Quoted from the new TBP HLP site:
quote: The Babylon Project was a dream given form.
The Babylon Project brings the already classic Babylon 5 ships, weapons, settings and stories into the upgraded Freespace 2 engine; see the Babylon 5 universe as you've never seen before!
Highlights of upcoming "Release 3"
# Stand-alone. "Release 3" and newer no longer require original Freespace 2 to work.
# Upgraded Freespace 2 engine by Freespace 2 Source Code Project.
# New release policy. As of "Release 3", the project has been seperated into two release branches; "base" and "missions".
The Babylon Project's main campaign - Earth Alliance Civil War
# Skullar, author of the main campaign is currently finishing his campaign script, after this we will begin mission designing.
# In this campaign you will personally experience the Earth Alliance Civil War.
# The campaign consists of 48 missions!
Read more about "Release 3" in our forums, where we have already answered to many questions concerning R3.
Wow....that's big news.
I'm glad that TBP is gaining momentum again.

Kind of sad news, but this time with extremely good addendum that more than compensates! Looking forward to developments on the R3 front.
I agree that people shouldn't be bothered with the name of FS2 at first, just keep it simple: "Want this game? Install this and you're done. (Oh yeah, it started out of this game here, go take a look...)"
