Freespace 2 too fast to play - help pls

I did a search before posting, and all I turned up was old info that did not seem to help much. Was wondering if anything new has come up since, or if anyone who's around now has any advice.

I have a P4 2.4, with Radeon 9700 pro, running Win XP Pro. The game runs much too fast to play, enemies all killed by friendlies before I get to them, etc.

Have heard of apps out there that are specifically used to slow down performance, but never seen any. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

This reply may seem stupid but...

have you accelerated the game?
see the lower right part of the hud... the timer... and see if it's X1.0 or something...

P.S.
I haven't played in a long time... so don't complain about my reply!

FS2 is designed so that it will not go faster than its supposed to be. The speed inhibitor is for old DOS games that would go as fast as the processor could give them and that lead to the games or events in the games running too quickly.

In the case of FreeSpace 2, a faster processor just means smoother gameplay.

You've probably accelerated the mission (check your key controls for time accelerators).

It's also possible that this could be the player entry delay bug. Does everything happen all at once?

Where do you get these decelrator things? I really need one because my Athlon XP slaughters any DOS program I use.

Anything that moves just seems to miss out the travel time.

they slow your entire computer down so you can play the games at whatever speed you specify

shouldn't be too hard to find... although i don't know if they'd work on newer, 2000k or XP machines

there were dozens of them... just like virus protectors, firewalls, and practically every program: there were good ones and bad ones...

Ah, mo'slo. I have it on my boot disk.
Download it from a link on this site. Just don't buy it,
it's not worth it. The evaluation version works fine. No games were made to work within a tenth or hundredth of a megahert or break. ...Unless it's some atari or monochrome game or something.
http://www.hpaa.com/moslo/

I'd only use it for DOS games, but I suppose if there are any Windows 95 games basic enough to have that problem, then you should be able to use it. Your problem isn't because of your computer speed, as was stated before in this thread. If you're going to play a DOS game old enough to need mo'slo, I would also reccommend a boot disk. Without the SB16 emulation driver, which only seems to work as it should under a true DOS promt (and not even then, heh.), you get no sound unless you're using an ISA sound card. Would you lime me to send it to you? The boot disk, that is. ^ ^

I'll shut up now.
