Throttle on a joystick

I'm running FS2 in WinXP. I recently bought a Wingman Extreme Digital3d. This joystick comes with a slider which seems perfect for use as a throttle. But i can't get it to work that way. Can it be done? Any possible suggestions?

I noticed that FS2 has a control called absolute throttle axis which can be assigned to i guess a joystick or mouse axis. But i have no idea how! Has anyone ever gotten it to work? Is there a file I can edit to code the controls to the joystick?

Hello there.

If it is the first time you are using a wingman, then there are some tricks you can learn.

First, read at least a little about the profiler (your joystick program), the help is well done and short. Always run the wingman profiler BEFORE you launch a game, and let it run in background.

Second, you should also configure your wingman in the main profiler menu, not in the game itself. The profiler provides you with nice features about games config. I believe FS2 is already in its default library, and the throttle is already set correctly.

The advantage of setting your commands in the profiler instead of the game menu is double: you can create combinations that are not possible in the game menu, like shifted buttons or programmed combinations, and you don't have to modify the default game config, which is handy if you have to re-install the game (though FS2 allow you to save those settings, but still...)

Hope it helps!

By the way, I own the "freedom 2.4" cordless wingman, and it is an absolute kick-ass joystick! Smooth, handy, lots of buttons... A little expensive, but what the hell, once you play with it, there is absolutely no regrets.

And, no, I'm not working for Logitech ads department

Killmasters comments aside the throttle can be set from in the game. Go to the key bindings section and look for the absolute or relative throttle commands. Click bind and then move the throttle.

I don't know about the Freedom 2.4 but the Profiler is absolutely unecessary for the regular corded Extreme 3D. I know this because I have one of these and as the Profiler won't work in 2k/XP without Administrator priveliges, I don't run it and FS2 still works fine, even with the throttle.
