Questions regarding R2 difficulties
Hi folks, excellent job on R2 it looks, great!!!!
I downloaded the full (198 MB) version of R2, but because of the current difficulties I've been reading about haven't gotten around to installing it yet.
I was wondering about a couple of things. I know you guys are making a soon to be released patch to sort out the mission bugs so:
1. Should I keep the current full download I got? If the fix will indeed be a patch to put over it. Or will there be a new full download with the fixes you recommend I download instead of the patch?
2. After the fix comes out, will the original demo be working? I'd really be able to play those Minbari War missions along with the new ones.
3. Will single fan missions work once the fix is released? Such as Lady Rose's Tales of the EAS Janus and several other singles I've kepot around since the old days or R1?
Thanks again for all your hard work and excellent job.

Don't get the wrong impression...the game works. FreeSpace 2 works like it always has...virtually perfectly. We've made some mistakes to gum up the works but old missions should be fine (although balance may have been affected).
Install the current version, we will have a patch when things are fixed. According to Kazan, the patches will be very easy to make and install (probably very small).
We'll probably have a full download with fixes available eventually but probably not right away. I bet I'm almost at my limit for uploads this month.

1) You should definitely keep it. Patch will not replace full download, it is just that, a patch.
2) Yes.
3) They should be, but we have made changes to tables, so they may be unbalanced unless updated.

the TRP release 2 install
ok... I have installed the second release, the anim. files, and the music files but when I played the game, it didn't come with the changed main hall it was Freespace, so... I went the the campaigns and selected the b5 campaign. When I played the campaign, it put me into a Vasudan fighter, not a EA figther.
My Question is this, is that the prob with the first mission or waht?
Heres what I did:
I installed the game the the freespace fold, but to the data section as was advised of me the last time when I installed R1; is that correct? In addition, I installed both the anim. files and the music files to the same location.
This is an unrelated question. I have a Wingman Logitech Joystick and was wondering what I was doing wrong in the calibration process. When I played Freespace 2, it was correctly calibrated and after the games was completed, I disconned the joystick. Well... I then saw this mod and reconned and calibrated using both the system calibration adn the calibration offered by Freespace 2 when you first start teh game( which by the way I think are teh same thing so I my not have done much). anyways, I also tried playing the game by clicking the reset to default button( as opposed to clicking calibrate) and the same problem occures.
The Problem:
Whenever I start a mission, the game has my fighter doing non-stop barrel-rolls. the only way to counter this is to adjust my joystick in-game and hope for the best.
This is, step by step the calibration sequence offed to me:
Step 1:
"Find Center Point - Leave handle centered, then press a button on the controller"
I press the fireing trigger as the button.
Step 2:
"Axis Clibration - Move the handle in complete circles then press a button on the controller"
This is where I have done 2 things. 1) I do as directed or 2) I do as instructed but then hold the handle as centered as possible then click the button( mind when I have done this and then played teh game, then barrel-rolls occured at a slower pace and thus more easily controlled). In addition, I again used teh firing trigger as teh button pressed.
Step 3:
"Verify Center Point - Leave teh handle centered, then press a button on teh controller."
I do as instructed and press teh trigger once more.
Step 4:
"Axis Calibration - Move the slider"(i.e. the thrust indicator)"all the way up and down, then press a button on teh controller"
I did so... pressing the trigger as the button( normally the slider is like all the way up when I start and it is registering no power when I pull back it adds power, so when I re-calibrate it , I do the opposite, it is all the way back and it comes out with half power then I push up it subtracts power. In the game though it has no effect.).
Step 5:
"Axis Calibration - Move the Z rotation all teh way up and down, then press a button on the controller."
I assume the Z rotation is the same for all joysticks, because on mine I can twist the joystick handle left and right and that manipulates the Z rotation. It gives me a random start point with this, halfway, full, no power, it gives random amounts each time. Anyways, I twist both ways as it asks, right to increase and left to decrease, then I press teh triggor as the button.
Step 6:
"To save calibration, click finish."
I do this every time and every time I play the game( the mod, I havn't tried the reg game lately) it does barrel-rolls, some times it stops for like 5 mins then it continues.
Please help if you can or please reffer me to a place that can help.
Thank You & God Bless,
- Lord Archon

Sounds like your VP files are not installed to the /FreeSpace 2 directory. Check your files.
Joystick problem...if its not calibrating I'd re-run the Windows game controller tests first. If its just not working at all and you can't get it to calibrate, maybe its dead. I know the optics on two of my Precision Pros eventually went after a few years of use...fortunately, you never need to calibrate them either so their behavior was indicative of the ultimate problem.
But a joystick problem isn't really TBP related in terms of our new release.

Thank You
I didn't think that there was a problem with the actual TBP release as far as it went with the joystick, just thought since it is a joystick involved game, that people could help. thanks for the help. the game works now, thank you.

Strange, I bet there was error(s) during transfer and the file got corrupted. Try downloading it again from another source.
Edit:
You can try following to ensure that your download is not corrupted:
-[URL=http://koti.mbnet.fi/~fury/misc/md5/md5.exe]Download md5.exe[/URL]
-Copy md5.exe to same folder where you have downloaded R2 installer.
-Open command prompt (Start > Run and type cmd)
-Move to the directory where md5.exe and R2 installer are. (for example: cd C:\Downloads)
-Type md5 TBP-Full-2_0.exe
-This prints md5 checksum, see if it matches to checksum below:
code:
EAA13B30A2AD43E812D19ED13492F09D tbp-full-2_0.exe
0E7297EF3CFAF1389FF99ACADFEB3780 tbp-core-2_0.exe
BCAD06741B00C9E56A42036789913D29 tbp-music-2_0.exe
1B883325711CD7462607C6EA6C14F549 tbp-anims-2_0.exe
-If it does not match, then your download is definitely corrupted.
R2 installer is able to check it's own integrity when you launch it. Integrity check is "crc" so it is not as good as "md5" but does the job well.

I downloaded all the full stuff, and installed it. It worked fine but I didn't play the anti-Clarke campaign just yet. Then I saw a post on the TBP website about skipping the first mission because of bugs, so I downloaded the patch and when I started the game, it REVERTED TO THE OLD V1.1!!
is it that there is something wrong with the download?

Probably not. Sounds like you've got the original TBP files in your data directory. FS2 uses files in the data directory in preference over .vp files (in which R2 are shipped). Either delete any B5 files from the data directory or uninstall/reinstall FS2 (which will do the same thing) then reapply the TBP installer.

Sorry to be a pain in the arse, but...
Is anyone going to put the release in fileplanet?
I can be patient, I just want to know if that's going to happen or not.

I can't get through the direct links you have given us in the R2 thread...
It's stops downloading after a certain time...
I've already tried to disable my firewall but, nothing seems to work...
