Green light people. Fee free to download Release 2.
Download full version right here.
Don't touch TBP-1_1-to-2_0 patch, it is too picky about R1.1 installation. While Full version is much bigger, it is HIGHLY recommended.
- TBP-Full-2_0.exe = This package is recommended, it contains R1.x and R2.0.
- TBP-1_1-to-2_0.exe = This is an update to TBP R1.1. Unfortunately it is not recommended because it is really picky about R1.1 installation, I myself couldn't install it.
- TBP-Anims-2_0.exe, TBP-Core-2_0.exe and TBP-Music-2_0.exe together form Full version.

Now just what are those? Some sort of patches? I do not intend to download those until I get confirmation of those.
I have feeling that I have seen those before...

These are official, they have not made it to mainpage news yet because Ice is waiting for 3DDownloads to get the files.
If you want R2, at the moment your only choice is Full version which includes R1.x and R2.0.
Of course you can also download R1.1 > R2.0 patch, but then you risk downloading 81 MB for nothing. It may work, but then again, it may not.

quote: This is about as much advanced warning you will be getting for the Release 2 of The Babylon Project. Its coming in several hours from now depending on how long it takes for my connection to drop the files on 3DDownloads.
Here's some of the details that you may need to be aware of. First is that there is a patch version that will patch TBP Version 1.1 to 2.0. The patch however is very picky and here's the official word from Kazan the technomage who managed to put the thing together.
The patch is highly finicky, which is an unfortunate side effect of the fact that we're upgrading from a non-vp release system to a vp release system. From now on the patches will be very stable, none of this finicky stuff that the current one has. Unfortunately if you try and install with the patch and it fails an md5 check it has already dropped some of your data - and unfortunate side effect of the non-vp to vp upgrade - in the future it will not delete until the md5s have all passed (Patches from now on will: md5 check origional, if pass patch else fail, md5 check destination, if pass delete origional else fail)
Also future patches will have custom install enabled - in this one it is disabled so you cannot select both High Res and Non high res. Also some systems seem not to get along with the MD5 checker, so it will be possible to disable the md5 checking in future releases - at your own risk though. I put no warranty on how the patchers ack if you have to disable md5 checking at somepoint.
Some of this may become clear after downloading and installing the patches.
As for whats been updated from R1.1 is the new ships, effects, sounds, and missions that make up R2.0. Music has been updated but still only contains low quality samples for FreeSpace 2 and it will undoubtedly remain that way (Christopher Frankes sonicimages.com is an excellent source for all of your B5 music needs!). There is no major campaign in this release but instead a mini-campaign and several single missions accessible from the Tech Room single missions list.
We also hope to keep the future releases much smaller as most of the updates will be in the form of new ships and effects almost exclusively. We are a few hours from release, stay tuned until them. The same as the last release, the team would once again like to stress the The Babylon Project is a free total conversion for FreeSpace 2 made by the fans for the fans. Happy gaming!
See TBP mainpage for any further news.

"A moment of perfect beauty"
Is there going to be a download of any of those files in fileplanet?
I can't get any of them through those servers (with or without my firewall) and fileplanet has never failed me.

well, the provided campaign in R2.0 is a bit buggy - tried the first mission 5 times and never got a RTB message or was allowed to jump out...
facts for all 5 runs:
Polaris survived
Gladiator and Rubidum destroyed (2nd before it docked with the K'rath)
no more hostile fighters around
I know - different designers, different ways to accomplish things, but from what I noticed in Fred I can say: whoever built this mission has used some intesting ways to check for mission events

due to the fact that im moving hoem from uni tommorow for four months and will be stuck on 56k kinda caused a rush - thankfully i'll still be able to make small patches (And sometimes large ones) because patches are small (they're size proportionaley to the amount of data altered)

Is R1 required to download and use R2, or can you download R2 without R1?

having R1.1 is only required for the TBP-1_1-to-2_0.exe patch program
to get 2.0 directly you can download TBP-Full-2_0 (or Core, Anims and Music which are all included in Full)
