Menu text flickers in FS1 under WinXP

Hi all,

I recently found my old Conflict Freespace and FS2 cds and decided to have a go installin them under WinXP Pro.

While FS2 works fine and I'm getting really into it again , FS1 gives problems in that the menu text flickers if I choose the "Direct 3D" option from the setup screen - "no 3D acceleration" seems to work, but (of course) I'd rather have it running as good as possible.

Im sorry if this has already been dealt with somewhere - I did have a look on the Search and thru the pages here without success - but if anyone has a solution that'd be great

My system specs:

Abit KR7A-133 board
AMD Athlon XP2000+
512MB PC2100 DDR RAM
ATI Radeon 8500
CL SB Live Platinum
MS Sidewinder 3D Pro

WinXP Pro with SP1 and latest updates
DX9
Latest ATI Catalyst Drivers & Control Panel

If anyone needs more info, let me know...thanks in advance for any help!

Might be DX9 that's causing the problem,if it's fine in software mode.

Either that,or a bug in the Radeon drivers?I'd try other versions and see what happens.

Or you could download the Freespace1 port for Freespace2.

I reckon it's your new drivers. Last time I downloaded the Catalyst driver suite (it was beta and said, amongst other things, that it fixed a bug for Re-Volt), it killed half my games and crippled the other half. I re-installed the old drivers and it worked fine again. However, I have a Radeon 7200, which will have a different driver set and I use DX 8.1, which may affect it as well.

FSPort doesn't have the right sounds for the old weapons (like the ML16), or the videos, but that was for the earlier version. They might have changed it since then.
