Problem with Taking out weapons in RF2 on PS2.

I've been playing RF2 on PS2 for quite some time now without any problems, but now there is a problem.

It is taking ages for weapons to change. When changing or picking up weapons, it can take any time from 10 second to two minutes to get a weapon in the arms of your character, ready to shoot.

What could be the problem?

The game is running fine. This problem just happened all of a sudden, and it hasn't gone away.

well in all honesty it is quite odd for this sort of thing to happen on a console, usualy if there is a problem it's there all the time or not alt all, I realy have no idea why it would suddenly start doing that, so maybe I should let somebody else speculate on the problem

Check your disc. Is it dirty, even a little?

Second, you could be running into an odd PS2 laser read error; it has an unfortunately high number of those. If your PS2 is on its side, put it horizontally and try that for a while.
