32bit gives you better looking graphics, it depends on your graphics card whether this has any impact in performance.

GeForce and Radeon cards usually works better with 32bit than 16bit, but I have noticed that FS2 engine itself may slow down because of lacking optimization. 32bit support or even 1024x768 support wasn't there in FS1.

You should try to use 32bit and then decide if gameplay is fast enough, if there are no problems then use 32bit. But if you experience slowdowns, try 16bit.

i have noticed a slowdown, well, it isn't a severe slowdown, it doesn't stop me from enjoying it, but it gets annoying.

I have:

ASUS A7V8x
AMD AthlonXP 2000+
768MB DDR PC2100
ASUS Geforce4 Ti4200 64MB

should i get any slowdowns at all???

i doubt it, since Freespace 2 needs at least a 200 or 233 or something like that.

Well, on the first mission where you need to protect the Iota Transports from NTF attacks and then the Psamtik jumps in to recover them and then the NTCv Belisarius jumps in and get destroyed by the Psamtik.

I get slowdowns when i face my crosshairs on the Psamtik and on the transports.

why is that?

Your specs look a bit better than mine, and I don't get any slowdown at all on FS2's highest settings. Except net lag.
You shouldn't be getting any slowdown.

I have:
P4 2Ghz
512MB RAM
NVidia GeForce 2 Ti 64MB

It's probably the 50 spyware programs you have running in the background.

Just call it a hunch.
