Is this the sniper located near the rock crusher?
If so, you don't have to wait long, the sniper will come out to shoot you. Kill them when they do. Use your own sniper rifle.
If this is not the one I am thinking about, look for another route and take it, you will get your chance to kill the sniper later.

Edit: Thanks for editing it out. For future reference, if you want to do that, just put "Need help in RF2 - Spoilers" or somesuch somewhere in your title and you should be golden.

I mean, I know the plot and all, but just in case a random newbie wanders in (hehe) we should be polite.
