Unhappy Why don't they develope a PC- version of Summoner 2 ???

I am really angry that they do not intend to produce a PC- version of Summoner 2 for I do not own neither a Playstation nor a Game Cube.
I think that Summoner 1 was one of the best computer- games ever made, but I don't see any sense in all those different stupid platforms except of making us poor consumers pay. Why isn't
there one central platform for all games?
Summoner 1 was available as a PC-version, so why
is it impossible to publish the continuation for
PC as well ? I think that there are far more people who own a PC than those who own a Game Cube. So I think that a PC- version would be sold more frequently.

True, but PC owners seem to buy one type of RPG and console owners another. It's hard to sell RPGs if they don't have a D&D name slapped on them for the PC or a Final Fantasy name slapped on them for consoles. But Summoner (the original) had good timing with the release of the PS2 being one of the very first RPGs out for it. The PC release got little press or fanfare, and I am going to assume did not sell very well or else I am quite sure we would see S2 on the PC. Personally I too would prefer it on the PC but the market dictates and it must not have sold well on the PC. :/

yeah thats true but i think the pc users should buy a ps2 if they want to play the games made for it. if they can afford a computer im sure they can afford a ps2 right.

I have a computer (not a PC) and a PS2, but I still like the way Summoner PC was done, it was better than Summoner for PS2 (I have both versions) So, in short, the best we can hope for is a third party port......

why would you get the game for both platforms. are you insanely rich or something and had nothing else to use that money on or do you just like playing the same game on different systems.

Well honestly it's much better for a game maker to produce games on a console for these reasons..

--1) Hardware: You know exactly what is inside the customers box and you don't need to worry about compatabilitie issues. Also you know what kind of controls they have and usually can customize strongly for that set up. Flaws with this is usually limited coltrols available (No keyboard and mouse set up option) and limited resolution (TV's I think can do 800x600) but usually the resolution isn't that much of an issue.

--2)Sales: An excelent PC sale means a 100 thousand copies. On a Console, 100 thousand copies means your game was crap. Blizzard games are an exception to this rule (easly selling millions) but for the most part, it's hard to sell a lot of copies for pc games then it is for Console games.

Just those two factors alone make up for good reasons to produce solely on consoles and drop the PC market. The only problem with consoles is Limited Multiplayer support. Only recently has big multiplayer support becomeing more of a reality in consoles. PC's have been doing this well for years. Also I personaly find FPS a bit rough on console controls where I'm more used to mouse and keyboard.
So unless you really want to make a great online game. Most likely your better off in the Console market. And I can respect that choice. Although I do wish games like Summoner had some nice multiplayer option.. i just don't know what.. Summoner Online? <Shrugs>

Well there's some downsides too though. You can't really patch consoles (well you sort of can now with some of them having internet connectivity, but that would have to save to a memory card or memory on the machine and is still kind of limited). Take Morrowind, the PC version got 2 patches that did some really major stuff like add a difficulty slider and let you see life bars of your enemies and it's getting an expansion in November. The X-Box version isn't getting any of this.

I don't think Summoner 1 had that many compatibility problems (it does seem to have issues with XP being seeing as it came out before it and I don't believe officially supports it that's understandable). I think it was simply and sadly just a money factor. :/

Well, you can afford a Mac... (just looking at the US pricing on apple.com is enough to send me into convulsions I don't want to even think about the equivalent Oz pricing... Still, I can dream... Dual 1.25Ghz G4s... )

Getting back on topic: Summoner 2 is coming to at least one platform I own (PS2) so therefore I couldn't care less about what other platforms it gets ported to.
