next release
Simple question - are there going to be any of those new codes in the next release(IE beam weapons on fighters)? And if so can any body figure out newtonian physics? I would love to fly a starfury like they do on the show.
PS - Some of us ARE patient-its been 2 years and I can wait for longer. Didn't anybody notice that there ISN'T a FS3 coming out anytime soon????? -RELAX-
PPS - if you are bored do what i do - convert models from other games

2 years? I don't think it's even been one yet since the first release.
Progress is kinda on hiatus at the moment, but there are only a few ships left to texture I believe.

We can have fighter beams now. Just go over to HLP and look for Bobbau's stuff, fighter beams was the first thing he did. All you need to do is DL the .exe and get the table entry for the targeting laser, give it some damage points, change the color if you want and *BAM* working fighter beam. And no, it doesn't only fire from one point. It works just like a regular weapon, except I don't think kill made with it are marked.

Bobbau's exe works but still has some issues about its beams that hurts the teams intentions. Theres no time to develop a new recoded one before R2 so we will not see it probably before even R3.

Bri_Dog, I've already done some extensive testing with Bobboau's system. Its quite good, but its got some stuff to be worked out I think first.
I may leave my test Neutron Beam Gun table entry in the tables (and just disable it for the time being) so if someone wants to test it out they can.
This thinking could change depending on how much longer R2 takes (we're waiting on a couple of ship textures, and a few single missions, as well as some other tweaks). If anyone has 2d art experience and wants to help us out....we'd appreciate it.

If you don't mind my asking, what issues with Fbeams are you talking about?

Latest version has already fixed most of bugs and problems.
Beams still does not count kills howewer, and there is still possible other problems. This needs to be tested properly.
Get to HLP Source Code forums and see how things are going yourself: http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=50

Requires source code modifications. So no.
