Red Faction Watch: IGN's Game Guide

Posted by Alphakiller:

Wow, it seems those wonderful worker monkeys at IGN have gotten off to a quick start. They've already posted the beginnings of a Red Faction Game Guide, currently consisting of The Basics, Weapons, and Multiplayer. (Or, "This is a PS2, This is a virtual gun, this is another person using a PS2 and a gun to school you.") Next week they plan on putting in single-player walkthrough.
However, the absolute shining jewel of this guide is no doubt the weapons descriptions, including describing the primary fire of the belt-fed machine gun: "Fully automatic bullet barrage from hell. Not too accurate." or describing the primary fire of the Flamethrower: "BBQ fun time."
Maybe it's a refugee Daily Radar (sorry ivan) employee? Whatever.
So, unless you headed straight for the deathmatch, check back on this in a week when they've got the single-player walkthrough started. However, their overview of the multiplayer maps seems pretty decent, it's not loaded with billions of details, but at the very least you'll have a general idea of what to do when you play the maps, as well as info on where to look for secret rooms. Good news here is only two levels have geo-mod disabled, but the other seven (assuming I can count right) have it enabled and encourage it. Most secret places are marked with like a poster or something, but I suppose it's like the slightly discolored wall in old school FPSes. Besides, are you really going to have time to sit there and examine each wall in the middle of a deathmatch frenzy? Not really...

Oh...yeah. They want you to register for IGN's spam list, or something...otherwise you can't get to the guide. It's free, and takes maybe 30 seconds, but then they want you to sign up for like 40,000 non-free things. Still, they think my ZIP code is 90210, so the joke's on them!
