Ramblings #5
Thought for the day:
Why do people tailgate? I mean, that's probably the worst thing to do when you're traveling 70 MPH in heavy traffic and could stop at any time. What goes through people's heads? Getting ahead of me isn't going to get you anywhere, buddy! You're still gonna be behind the next guy!
Even worse: tailgating a motorcycle. They can stop on a dime which = insta-death for the biker when you drive over him/her.

i hope this isn't a rhetorical question... but i think some dumbass motorists do it to feel secure -- or they're plain dumbasses. It always annoys me when i got some prick about 10 inches from my bumper when im going like 65 or 70, so i gradually slow down to about 50 or 45 so they get the hint.
my dad knew a guy who would chuck spark plugs back behind him whenever people got too close -- then again he was on a motorcycle

Although I do most of my tailgating at football games I will ride the ass of anyone who thinks it's cool to pull in front of me when I'm doing 65-70 down the road and then stay at a constant 45 mph while there's oncoming traffic so I can't pass.
Basically, I only tailgate to reward dumbass drivers for being dumbasses.

yeah i hear ya dyn. that's how most of the beaners down here drive... speed past you out of a parking lot or intersection, then slow down to about 35 in a 55 zone. i mean, WTF i would want to jump out and beat them, but whenever the next signal light turns red, they speed back up to about 65 or 70.

There is very little tailgating in my part of the country. If you are sitting on someone's butt, it's because you are sitting on someone's butt... in traffic. When we can get to 60 mph.....we enyoy it!

Well - and this comes from my brother, so I take no responsibility for any consequences (I don't drive- first time insurance is too expensive for me to even bother learning) - tap the brake pedal lightly, and the brake light should light up without the car slowing of the brakes making contact with the wheel.... thus scaring the hell out of the too-close driver, who has to slam on this brakes to avoid an expected collision.

Now when I get a car that is something I'm going to have to do
If someone insisted on tailgating me while I was learning how to drive I'd just increase the gap between me and the next car in front until they got the hint (and to give myself more time to stop/slow down so I wouldn't get rammed in the back).

that's actually what I do ... but I've seen it done where someone pulls this trick (but hits the brakes a little too hard), and the inattentive prick drives right up your ass hahaha
