Question Free Space 2 - Part 2 - Destiny's Destruction

http://www.geocities.com/weyounthepixie

Hello people. I'm pretty new around these forums, so I don't really know who the main regulars are, or if there are any unofficial rules I should abide by, so please forgive me if I make some mistakes - it's my first post :)

I've been playing Free Space since it came out and I love it. Now I'm sure it goes without saying that there's plenty of people out there creating new missions and campaigns, so I won't pretend I'm the only person in the world to ever try it.

However, I thought I would tell you about my Campaign:

Free Space - Destiny's Destruction

It takes place a few days after Capella is destroyed in FS2. The premise of FSDD is relatively simple: Obviously some Shivan ships remain in GTVA space, and the GTD Orion's mission is to hunt these down and destroy them. In the process, you (Alpha One) have to defend your mother ship, evacuate an entire space station, pilot through the newly created Capella Nebula in a desperate escape mission, find a Shivan strong hold, ally with a new race, and much much more. Brand new original movie footage is used in the game, as well as new WAVE files for chatter during missions. Not only that, but there are some new ships as well.

The campaign is not yet complete, and will not be for a couple of months, but I would like to judge people's reactions to it. I will be finishing a mission very shortly, and I will be uploading it to a website so you can download it. The WAVE files and movie footage will not be included as I am using a 33.6 modem, however I am soon getting cable, and the entire game will be available as soon as I have finished it, in downloads of just missions, missions with sound, and missions with sound & movies.

It will also be available on a CD as well, with full installation files and procedures to help you put everything in the right places.

But I would like to know what you expect in a mission or campaign - do you like story lines? Do you like action? Do you like to influence decisions, or let the game play it out as it sees fit? I would like to make sure I have a winner before I release it. Your help is much appreciated :)

There's another discussion on this board about what people expect in a campaign so I won`t go into that here.

The campaign sounds like fun. If you`re planning to do movies we'll all be impressed (few campaigns go as far as having voice acting let alone making movies).

How far have you got so far?

...I don't want to depress you, but I think the main ideas just make into the script...now you can start work

Oh ok, I'll take a look at that. Thanks

Really? I've downloaded a few missions off the net, but not a campaign yet. None of them had sound, except one. But it was made by a 16 year old who, I presume, only used Windows Sound Recorder, and thus it was a little.....non prefessional. I'm aiming to make a fully playable "seperate" game, and thus I'll need some movies here and there

I have a few missions to complete (there's about 30 in all) and then I need to record the voices and put the movies in. Some of the movies are pretty easy to do - the computer readouts, and some of the more simple galaxy images here and there, but for actual ships, I'm going to have to work with someone to make some 3D models. It will be hard, I know, but I think I can do it. I have a lot of patience I'm going to try to get some friends form spacebattles.com to help out there I think.

As I say, I'm a good few months away from final completion, but I will have the missions done in a month or so. I'll release them on a site and link to them from here, so I can get some of you fans playing it. Then, I can get feed back - are the missions too hard, too easy, too boring etc.

I'm not sure if I made it clear in my original post, but it will be a free game, but the CDs eventually will cost you - the price of the CD and postage - but that's it I do this because I love FreeSpace \o/

Now I'm going to play with the "Demo" mission hehe.

The script means if you have complete design for the missions, and if you know the plot.
It`s strictly recommended to make a complete script so that you know what is going to happen in every mission before you start with making them.

I wouldn`t recommend the other way with doing missions one after another, in the way "let it be".

With films and voice, it sounds really interesting and I`m sure I`ll be awaiting the campaign.
I wish you best luck with making it.

Ahh, I understand now

Yes, I already have the full story line all nicely worked out. You may get a hint at it by the title of the campaign (Destiny's Destruction). Take a guess? =)

I'll be uploading one of the missions later on tonight and will link to it since I'm almost done it. It's taking me about 5 days (5 hrs p/day) per mission at the moment.

If anyone is on MSN messenger, please add weyounthedancingborg@hotmail.com as I need a tiny bit of help with an aspect of Fred2 that isn't covered in the walk-through. I'm pretty experienced in it overall, but it's something that I have never got the hang of, and I don't want to sayit here because I'm pretty sure it's very easy, and I would look stupid.

My plan is to seem very intelligent at first. Then when you all get to like me I'll destroy the entire message board.

<MAD_LAUGH> HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA </MAD_LAUGH>

or something like that anyway

seriously, I do need a bit of help, so please contact meh asap

love you all. well not love but you know... ;-)

Go ahead and post your problem. We've all asked stupid questions once before. As long as it isn`t something like "how do you make the beams fire" You'll get away with it

=)

Well I was wondering.

If on, say, Mission X you had to save some ships, let's pick Lamda.

If there's 6 of them in that mission, and Lamda 2 and 3 are destroyed, and mission Y is a red alert one, is there a way for Lamda 2 and 3 to be missing next mission? But it's all interactive you see: it could be Lamda 1 that's destoryed instead.

ie: I want the same ships that survived mission X to be in mission Y.

do you understand what I mean? I'm not sure if I explained it all that well :) The outcome of mission X can change, so each time you play, perhaps different ships would be destroyed. I want the game to realise this. Plus I need them to have the same armour integrity as the mission before.

is this possible?

Red alert is poorly documented so It's not surprising you had trouble with that one.

I`ve done a couple of Red alerts but it was a while back. As far as I remember setting lambda wing in both missions to Red alert carry status should have the effect you want.
