Muck around with weapons
Well, here we are then. Let's unpack. This is our new home. Nice place, this.
Oh well, to the pont then: weapons.
I'm sure there has been something like this posted in General, but I'd like to post it here.
In FRED2, play around with capship weapons: it's fun! I've had a Cain with all BFReds, and it took out an Arcadia 9 seconds into a mission.
However, even after changing weapons and such, I still don't know what fusion mortar and Vasudan flux cannon do. Can someone please enlighten me?

They are pretty useless weapons. The Fusion motar is a Secondary weapon. Fires warheads that do 80 or so points of damage. Flux Cannon is the same thing with 500 damage.
Not very big a deal tho.

You'll recognize the fusion motars as those little torpedo things that come out of the bottom of a Fenris or Leviathan class ship.

I like equipping cruisers and corvettes with nothing but BFGreen/BFRed/BVas (dependent on species) and then testing them against a Colossus or something. A Cain with all BFReds actually took it down to 60% (75% when it stopped to take out an Arcadia first) before it got beam-kabobed by the Colossus's BFGreens

I beileve that the Shivan Super Lasers are one of the games most under-apreciated weapons. I used the one weapons cheat to outfit my Perseus with them, and in two shots(4 beams) I took out a 100% Fenris. Even if it's not that powerfull of a ship, that's still impresive.

See? Good usage of cheats. We should copy this to the RF forums for those guys to see.

I prefer to equip the Terran cruisers with anti fighter missles or torps depending on the task at hand... they're a lot more useful then the fusion mortars which fly off any which way (dumbfire, argh!) and are just a waste of a missle slot.
But they can look kinda cool sometimes!

They might not do much damage but they look VERY cool.

I don't whether the weapon like this on the Shivan cruisers are the same, but speaking as one whose been killed by them many times, I'd like to say they can be very effective with there damage!

You're obviously flying into the cruiser's line of fire then. Fusion Mortars are programs to only be targeted and fired at large ships and not fighters/bombers.
Fusion Mortars aren't all that powerful on their own, but they are a rapid firing weapon so they can be nasty if you fly into a large swarm of them.

Those are fighterkillers on the Cain and Demon. The Typhon also has them; Shivan Clusters are used by the Demon, Lilith, and Moloch.
I HATE fighterkillers.
