Confused/ B5 vs. Freespace2!!

Supposedly the B5 game was developed from Freespace2. I just downloaded the demo for Freespace2 to get an idea of what B5 might look like before I download 200 megs. of info.
Is it just me or are some of the graphics a little bland. Has B5 been improved graphically over Freespace2. How much better is playing B5. I was not completely satisfied with what I saw on Freespace2. Is B5 online multiplay.

never played the freespace 2 demo, but if yu have even a halfway decent video card, the full game looks impressive. Actually, to be quite honest, these are the best graphics on any spaceflight sim i've ever seen.

The babylon 5 mod improves slightly on the freespace graphics, and the only competition they have so far is the buda-5 team. (BTW, I'm buying Indie War 2 just for the iwar 2 buda5 mod.)

Believe me, you'll think it's worth buying freespace 2 and downloading the demo just for the battle of the Line missions.

Graphics are bland? What computer do you have? Put 'em all on max and it looks beautiful. IIRC the demo's graphics were also slightly less 'refined' than the final version, but I don't remember. It's been a loooong time since I played the demo.

TBP's graphics are constrained by the FS2 engine in some respects, but they also go above and beyond the FS2 game - their high-res stuff has to be seen to be believed. Check some of the picture threads on the forum, they'll give you an idea. Also look at the screenshots on TBP's homepage (http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/babylon)

Besides, Freespace 2 is like ... $10. Buy it, get TBP. It's not like you're losing a ton of money. And IMO you're gaining a lot - you get lots of other mods, campaigns, and stuff like that too for FS2 (obviously not all B5 related)

You forgot IFH...the demo should be out in less than two months...

How do I run the B5 sim instead of the Freespace2 I am loading up?
Do I need FS2 to play the B5 games?
How many B5 games are there?
What is the Buda5 based on Independence war 2 I keep hearing about?

You need FS2 to play The Babylon Project - none of the other ones require FS2. (One will be a stand-alone product, one is a mod for Independance War 2)

To play TBP, you download the files and install them per the instructions, then play. Easy as that.

There are no official B5 games per se, because Sierra canned Into the Fire, but there is a freeware fan-made game called I've Found Her that's currently in development, as well as two mods, TBP and the Buda5 mod. TBP is a mod for FS2, Buda5 is a mod for Independance War 2.

If you want to see what the graphics of the Babylon 5 mod look like in-game, go to this screenshots page:
http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/babylon/screens.php

Freespace 2 is an old game buddy, and If Ur expecting Specular and T&L effects like in Independence War 2 you aint getting that here. FS2 allows for only simple texturing and thats what the team is limited by. But they sure make it look good. U feel like Ur in the show...sniff...

U can say graphics are sort of upgraded from original Freespace 2, but its the game-play thats the real change.

Actually, there's a lot more babylon 5 mods. Lots of people make ships from all different kinds of scifi and put them in Klingon Academy, I've seen three babylon 5 mods for homeworld.

Did you know that someone made a freespace 2 mod for homeworld? Quite fun, actually. Someone's also doing the reverse, putting homeworld ships in fs2. So far they only have the kushan ion frigate, but it still looks promising.

Someone's making a babylon 5 mod for star trek armada II, I'm sure that there are several more in the works.

Is TBP the big or main one in here?
What other ones other than TBP are in here or are you talking about Buda 5?
How good is Buda 5 using the IDW2 engine. Before I spend that kind of money on a game just for the engine I'd possibly like to see some screenshots.
Hope you guys are patient with me this is new to me.
BTW is there multiplay with TBP or Buda 5??

Has anyone ever tried to see about picking up "Into The Fire" from Sierra. Hey you never know what do they need it for if they are not going to produce it?

Since you are new msmith45, I shall be patient. Into the Fire got cancelled by SIERRA about 2 years ago since they thought it would not generate enough sales, and they went to Deer Hunter instead.

WHen the fans realized that there was going to be no B5 game, the online cummunity started modding existing games like mad.

Since Into the fire was a space simulation, the obvious game to be modded was Freespace 2, the best space sim of its time. There is only 1 full-fledged Babylon 5 mod for Freespace 2, this one. It also happens to be the biggest mod, across all games.

Other games...lets see there are about 7 or 8 babylon 5 mods for Homeworld alone.
http://www.thegamingunion.co.uk/Forum/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi

There is also a Freeware game in the works named 'I've Found Her' by some Russian fans of B5. Its going to be free, and you dont need to buy any game to use it with. Its a stand-alone game. It uses the newest technology, using the newest video card features. Sound too good? there's a catch, its not been released yet. But the creaters take daily fan input and post screenshots of their progress just like the team here, so i believe the game WILL come out soon.

Independence War I dont know much about, the BUDA 5 mod is supposed to be good.

I've played the Independence War 2 demo and you have to see the graphics to believe them. Some of the weapons effects (like that blue beam your ship can fire) and the shield hit effects are very cool.

wonder if there is a way Klingon Academy could be converted over to a B5 version so you could fly the capitol ships in combat. If it can be done to Freespace2, ST:Armada2 & both versions of Indenpendence War why not that?

I was just checking out IFH screenshots, really nice. BUT in the upper left corner of some of them is a framerate counter- it's most disapointing. And it scared the crap outta my system.

Actually, someone HAS modded various babylon 5 ships into Klingon Academy. They can only be used in skirmishes, or multiplayer if your opponent has the ship. geocities.com/minbari_captain
