converting help
I am trying to convert peo(Homeworld) files to FS2. I'm working on fighters since they are the least complex.I have 3d exploration to view and convert the files.That's not the problem.I got my hands on Truespace 2 and I haven't the slightest idea how to use it. I load a cob file of a fighter and the model is so big that I can't even view the entire model.I can convert the homeworld files to FS2 without going into truespace but the model in modelview(AND in game) stands on its tail and goes sideways.Now i went on this web site-

Who the hell did all these mods?(notice TBP is the ONLY FS2 mod!!!!!)
And I'm sorry, I looked at alot of the models(W/TEXIES) in 3dx and they look damn good.
Ever see the WCmod? Or Robotech? They look like crap next to this site.
They of course look like worthless crap next to TBP!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure, but I think you need at least Truespace 4 to make those models work in FS2.

Thats exacly how I felt a few weeks ago, it took me ages to figure out how to convert things correctly. I can tell you how to make a fighter easily, but the capships are a much harder because you have to add turrets.
In the addon I put a readme that tells you how to do it, I would post it here but its rather lengthy. So just download the addon or e-mail me and I will send you the text file.

I'm happy to see that there are soldiers like yourself who fight the good fight.
I'll see if I can "find" a registration code to activate truespace4.
I'm downloading your mod know.I'll chack it out and let you know how it goes.
If I can figure out how to convert I'll E-mail you the file for you to check out first.
Thanks for answering my question. Most of the time it's like pulling teeth to get anybody to release one of their secrets.

first you need to learn how to mod freespace 2
do you know the modelling hierarchy at all

Actualy adding turrets is easy. All of the cap ships above need to be modified in terms of subobject arrangement and the turrets must have the barrel pointing up or they will fire sideways.
Unfortunatly most of you will spend numerous hours arround to no avail. You have to know how to add turrets , how to organize subobject hirarky within TS4 and convert. Its doable but to learn that from scrach will take weeks.

Those ships files are of different format, is there a way to convert them to COB?

I converted all my files to cob using a combination of truespace 2 and 3d explorer. to learn to mod freespace 2 you need to read the turorials and just keep trying, eventualy you will figure it out.
