Question Starfury Wing Art

I asked about this a loooooooong time ago and you said you would try to set it up so that you could set the wing art of your 'fury same as your squadron logo in FS2. Is that still the plan?

We haven't done the INSIG part of the models yet and that will never equal wingart.

If you want to do wingart, open the PCX thats related to the Aurora and make away. I'm surprised we haven't seen any wingart for the Aurora yet

The textures are simple PCX-Files... I think any photoediting tool should work.

The Starfury texture is in

data\maps

The files are

AURORA-01a.pcx
AURORA-01b.pcx
AURORA-01c.pcx
AURORA-01d.pcx

Concerning wingart: I read, that you have to add additional ships into the table and change the models to use new textures if you don't want to have all starfuries look the same...

Still, I would like to have squad logos... way easier and much fun in multiplayer!

Yeah, I'd Like to have a wing of thunderbolts with the same squadron logo, maybe we should have a competition to see who can come up with the best wingart?

For what type of paint package to use, I would say that Paint Shop Pro works best with Freespace 2 textures.

As for knowing how to do a logo, FreeSpace Watch has a Tutorial on modelling a ship in Blender, and then texturing it with PSP or Photoshop (which includes how to do logos).

Remember that wing art and squadron logos are two different things.

I'd love to see some wingart...if just for fun. Yes you have to put it on all ships or not at all, but it'd be fun to have a contest like that.

This may seem like a simple question but how do you add squadron logos?

I think you make it in some format...targa or psx? and save to your data folder... and in your barracks, change your logo there

Squadlogos are 128x128-PCX-Files at 256 colors whith true green being transparent. The file goes to data\player\squads\

Choosable squadlogos can only be seen in multiplayer and the area where it appears must be defined in the fighter model.

Do you think that on the squad logos, there could be art just below the cockpit for pilot names?

Some names might be hard to make out though. Like with the nameplates on the Orions, if you had GTD WILLIAMSHAKESPEARE, it didn't look right.
