For BAD BOY BEZ only :

Alright , here is the deal.

it is highly recommended that you get a DOWNLOAD manager for this. We gave you links in the other topic.

They work like this :
- You install the DOWNLOAD MANAGER
- You start downloading the TBP files with this manager.

After a while your parents tell you to go offline. No problem , coz when you get online again you can resume the download at the point you broke it off. Using a download manager means you dont have to start over when something goes wrong.

So , you can brake and resume as often as you want. You can download big files in portions and there is nothing that can go wrong.

Therefore , since there are downloadmanagers available , people do no longer split big files into several small ones for download purposes. Understood ?

Now , I recommend GETRIGHT . Don't use GoZilla coz it has a rather complicated interface at first and to many popup **** in my opinion.

--------------------------------------------------------

And then , you can download the whole TBP mod ( 130 MB ) in 2 or 3 days. People here are waiting for it for over 2 years and I just told you how to get it without problems.

OK ?

oky doke.

please read my thread again you'll find an apology at the bottom.
if you hav'nt already. but no one has answered my question yet why can't you turn the 75 meg downlaod into mangable chuncks of 10-15megs. so instead of on big file you have several smaller downlaods each will a different part of 75 meg downlaod. if not why didn't nayone just say so from the start it would have stoped a lot of poeple getting the rong side of the stick me included.

Maybe because some people want to leave their computers downloading at night or day when they are at school/work. And if the file is in small bits that can be pretty hard.

I understand your reply, Pera, but just to help Bad Boy Bez out, will someone explain in SIMPLE terms what exactly stops the BASIC download file being broken down into smaller segments (so you could download it either as a 75MB file or as a number of 10MB files)?

If you check back through the threads, no-one has actually answered that question yet.

I don't understand how it works myself (otherwise I'd try to explain) and I'm sure there are a number of others out there who are as clueless as me and would be curious to know the answer.

And before anyone goes off on one, I'm not whining - I'm just asking the question for Bez.

Simplicity, sanity, and practicality.

Its much easier to package a download and set it up in a larger proportion than in smaller arbitrary sections. Some files are not going to divide that easily into small sections and we'd rather not cut something in half just like that.

We think this is the best, easiest, and most widesteam download solution available. I'll be that we'll look at some other ways, but your suggestion wields little merit on its own.

Now, like everyone else has been suggesting, go get GetRight or Mozilla or any number of those Download Resume programs and use it on this download like countless others do on so many game demos that are out there.

Think of it this way.
TBP v1.0 comes out - 75MB download.
OK. Now let's assume they split it into 7 10.71MB downloads. Fine.

What happens with v1.1? Oh right - they have to upload eight files as opposed to one, 7 for the split and one for the full version. What happens if someone gets part of the v1.0 split files mixed with v1.1? Screwed! etc. etc. etc. AND that assumes they can get the files to split properly, then recombine properly and all that. And there are programs (SplitMaster et al) that can do this but they cost money to split any file over 3MB (trust me, I had to shuttle 57 megs worth of downloads from a notebook to a desktop with nothing but a pack of floppies...it SUCKED) so basically ... no.

Download Accelerator is another program you might want to look at, it can usually help out boosting DL speeds, plus it does resumable-download (so you can start and stop at any time) ...

Basically, it's possible to make the 10mb chunks but it's impractical because the demand is ... uh ... exceptionally small. As in, one. And it's impractical on the server end as well.

(OK, just read IceFire's post, since I'm basically stealing his words. Heheh.)

No one suggested the more sensible option, splitting the download packs up into sections dependent on content, and not size. Not that I care personally, seeing as I get good speeds from my DSL, but having one download with sounds, another with models and skins, a third with missions, etc would go a long way to mitigating the complaint of a single large d/l. Plus, as updates are done, they can be sequentially added to the specific download sections, so you don't need to redownload the entire massive 75 meg zip simply because there's updates models or missions.

?

Updates wouldn't require the whole 75meg file to be downloaded again.

I don't see the problem about size, and i'm on 56k.

And why not? Since presumably the entire thing is in one big VP file, they'd have to send the entire damn thing down every time there's an update, or else end up with a bunch of loose files floating around.
