Red Faction Watch: Review, Preview, and Screenies
Posted by Alphakiller:
Okay, let's hit the ground running.
Although this is more in UltorCorp.de's territory, the German website MemBa's Gameworld has posted a review of the Red Faction multiplayer test demo, so check it out (if you can read German) right here. It seems to cover the multi maps, the powerups, stuff like that. It got rated 86% overall, but given that this is a technology test and not a full demo, that seems kind of bogus to already score it.
GamesDomain has tossed up a preview of Red Faction, based on both the leaked International Demo, the released multi test, and they have a press copy of RF to play with. These guys are on the ball, though, read this quote and see if you can figure out why. "Theoretically, you could tunnel using your rocket launcher as far as you like, although what it'd do to your texture memory we shudder to think. As a case in point, approximately six hours after the original Red Faction demo was released, someone released a hacked file that increased the power of the explosive charges - by about 50 times. Hilariously, detonating five or six of these in a row could create a cavern around 2-300 feet deep, with no graphical lag - something we're pretty sure Volition didn't intend for that particular level of the game. "
Hmm...wonder who that could be? It also points out that Geo-Mod is your friend, and you shouldn't worry in a multiplayer game (if you haven't tried the multi yet) about it lagging out poor 56K modem users.
Anyway, the preview in full is right here. It's got screenshots, most of them from the International Demo, but some from the multi test, too. And a few RED shots, but those aren't new, as far as I know. The reviewer is pretty on-target about the game, he's psyched but also acknowledges the flaws (and he explains why they exist, which is very nice) in the game. Overall though...this guy likes it a lot. And just in case you haven't gotten your hands on the RF demos, he does mention GamesDomain is mirroring both of them, but then again, so are most gaming sites.
And last, but not least, those strange people over at Voodoo"We're obsessed with sex"Extreme have posted five brand-new screenshots from their build of the game, a full beta. They also promise more are coming, and are trying to get Skarz to write the preview for it. I want to see that happen, that's for sure. Anyway, these five shots are from the early part of the game, and they promise more tomorrow. Still, even though they post headlines like "Red Faction Nudies" these VE guys have been good about giving us lots of Red Faction stuff, so I'm willing to overlook it.
