Alright, what type of new and original player ship design do you want to see in The Babel Effect?

Beam cannon wielding bombers?

Combat vessels that engage multiple targets at once?

I've always liked the idea of a stealth bomber, say twice the size of the Pegasus.

Or maybe a bomber with defensive laser turrets, that can have multiple weapon launches (ie rather than dual fire mode maybe quadruple fire mode), so instead of firing 2 helios torpedoes at once you could launch four.
This type of bomber would be probably twice as large as the Ursa, with a crew of say four, with a tailgunner to cover that exposed rear arc, and a large payload.

An ultra fast interceptor (cruising speed of say 150, with afterburners say 300), with anti bomber missiles that can hit at ranges of 6km, and a laser version of the Gattling Gun (very high rate of fire, medium power drain)for bomb intercept and general dogfighting.

Anti Fighter/Bomber Fleet Escort Ships with 20+ High rate of fire Turrets and minimal anti capital ship weapon systems.

And we've already discussed a subspace submarine type craft in another thread.

For shooting 4 helioses, just edit the tbl entry, and look at the hornet, copy the spawn 8 or whatever and make it 2 so you always fire 2 helioses 4, on double...

The swarm 2 feature works for I did it in my Hypermod.. just turn it to Lock only and you'll be fine.


As for the 20+ turret fire.. That's in the hypermod as well.. But you must balance those weapon out to not have such an effect on shields.. because frankly.. a leviathan or a fenris becomes as hard as a sathanas when it can blow you away at 2000 units (FUN AS HELL!) ..

I'm sure you saying what's so fun about that?

Well.. lots of bullets flying at me satisfies my endor syndrome. >

This is almost certainly impossible, but if you could make the player a turret gunner on a large ship, it would be sweet. [/dream]

Howabout a repair craft? You have a beam with extremely short range and negative damage, and your job is to run around repairing ships. The beam could be either a normal beam or just an ultra-rapid stream of lasers.

It would be different, at least.

Also naming the dual Helios: Helios#Dual would mean that it looks like the standard bomb in the game interfaces.

However, as said before, I don't think that doing that would be worth the "kewl" factor...

A repair gun would also be a "kewl" thing, but doesn't fit will with the FS technology mythos. (Why did I chose mythos as the word? Well because it's not true technology, but it does have internal logic)

These ideas are great, don't get me wrong, but let's come up with something you've never seen before, and think that the FS engine can handle it...

The problem with "ultra uber intercept0rs!" is that they aren't well for game balance.

The Ursa already serves as a capable bomber in the hands of a good pilot, the difference of dual to quadruple fire isn't much.

I'll say this much:
Disruption/Parasite Warhead- Yes
Rapid Fire Tracking Anti-Bomb Cannon-Yes

Something big, manuverable, and lots of turrets and a really big secondary bank... maybe

Well, I don't know if it's possible, but how about a Flak beam? An AAAf beam that emits flak in a radius around the beam, so if the beam misses, the flak still gets you... Probably not possible, but hella cool thought
