Here's a little sample of some ships you'll be seeing in The Babel Effect.

Let's not get into that, the Apocalypse can waste everything with its Electrobeams.

Looks nice, albeit a little plain, Ace.

Look at the Tag GVJ i think its Juggernaut class for the Vasudans . SJ Sathans Juggernaut

I dont think its a Carrier becuese the carrier would have something like GVCa or something like that.

Hey Ace, that GVJ Semnai could well be a serious Anti-Terran type of ship.
Any screenshots yet?
Nice to see a carrier will be in The Babel Effect.
Remember Naval Dreadnoughts were replaced by Carrier Power, something to do with the greater area of influence/potential for destruction supplied by Carrier based aircraft.
With regards to the Freespace Universe, a Dreadnought / Juggernaut are only so much scrap metal once you remove both weapons and engine subsystems, say with a couple of wings of Stealth Bombers.
Which reminds me, anybody come up with a decent Stealth Bomber?

Of course, ATM there is no real way the GTVA can build a stealth bomber (look at the design compromises that went into the Pegasus)

Also, with jump drives, you eliminate the single biggest advantage air power had over naval power; mobility.

Shrike , quite true, forgot about the jump drive thing.

Yet I must ask, how long did it take the GTVA to build the Colossus?
How long did it take the Colossus to become a floating scrapyard?
The amount of resources that went into the Colossus could have built a fleet of smaller vessels (ie the Deimos Class Corvette), or ships that could float in and out of subspace (similar to a submarine)unloading their ordinance before vanishing back into subspace.

The Colossus took from between 2345-2367 to be constructed. FreeSpace 2 showed it's first true deployment in a combat situation, however there is reason to believe that it was space-borne before even the NTF rebellion.

The first decade was namely construction of theory and assembling the base to assemble the vessel.

In the end, as proven on the HLP forums, a single Juggernaut is more cost effective and time efficient in construction than a fleet of Orion class destroyers.

The alliance post-Capella mainly has been focusing on strengthening current fleets as well as developing prototype class ships for the next generation.

These prototypes include the Golgotha, which is designed as an anti-installation ang juggernaut class ship, as well as the Xanthus which is a carrier class developed to field more versatile mobile firepower in Corvette and Cruiser taskforces.

In The Babel Effect you'll be seeing some more civilian traffic during the initial sorties as let's say a crisis which makes Ikeya look like a cakewalk begins...

On the Semnai, it is a juggernaut designed by Vasudan contractors as an extact opposite philosiphy as the Golgotha.

While Dark's "giant killer" is cheap and take take out anything with sufficient numbers and power placed into it's cannon, Bobboau's juggie here is designed with the sole purpose to eliminate the effectiveness of mobile forces.

What do I mean? Look for instance at pirate factions, they rely on hit and run raids with fighters, bombers, modified transports as raiders, and light warships.

The Semnai is designed with almost exclusively anti-fighter and bomber weaponry with peak efficientcy, while fitted also with a forward weapons arc which can quickly neutralize escort fleets while it's bomber compliment uses the ship's cover to mount an assault.

The Semnai uses some differences in it's design than the Colossus to prevent issues with it's bays being rendered ineffective

To say this much: I'm sure the Apocalypse can finish off the Semnai with a well-aimed fire by the conversion matrix.

However in the time to charge it, as it's other weapons literally bounce off the crystallinum laced molybdenum screening, the Semnai has destroyed it's entire escort fleet, and bomber squadrons have taken out any possibility of resupply.

The Apocalypse may live, but Krazy Khonsu's(tm) Vasudan battlegroups can take out the starving crew at their leisure.

Edit: On Ash's "sub-space submarines" you'll love what the Laomedon Conclave has done to their Xanthus prototypes...

Are you serious? Well, I know with Orions, but what about a comparably sized fleet of Deimos?

It's still cheaper in the long haul, actually Deimoses are less cost effective than Orions...

i am afraid that the numbers you are using in your size chart are wrong. sixe difference between the collossus and the lucifer are correct, but if you look at the movie, the collossus is only 6.5 kilometers long.

The figures are out of modelview which measures the actual game meters, they are rounded to the nearest hundred.

They are not inaccurate.

Edit: The exact length of the Colossus is in fact 6,117 meters. The Sathanas is 5,968 meters.

Sorry to tell you this, but the CM doesn't need to recharge (more info to come soon) - but it's really dangerous to activate.

But let's not get into this kind of dicussion, they're pointless. I like any and all new ships to FS2, and this 'zod juggie there seems to be a very fine example...
