Firepower
I know this has probably already been asked, but if you are hit by another fighter will you be destroyed in one hit like on the show? And will the shadow weapons be as powerful as they are on the show? Will they be able to slice right through other ships?

The power of the weapons has to be discussed. This cannot be decided on its own , it also depends on the ship's characteristics, how fast they are etc....
The weapons won't be able to cut enemy ships into pieces exactly as featured in the show, but the debris of destroyed vessels fly around and from a distance it will look pretty much alike...

I think Skullar pretty much answered the question.
One shot kills I think we'll be trying to avoid. Nobody likes getting nailed by a stray shot that they would have otherwise avoided.
What we will be doing is balancing the speed of the ships with the weapons to ensure that combat is faster and more akin to Babylon 5. It may be possible to destroy a fighter in perhaps a few hits, but we'll see what happens as we get more and more models in the game.

Things that will help:
Your weapons power drains after:
5-10 shots on the starfury
10-20 shots on the Sentri
5-7 shots on the Frazi
unknown on the Nile.
they re-build power quickly though!

Will the afterburner effects be modified for the Starfury so instead of giving the firey Freespace 2 effect they'll look more like they do in B5?

Hmm, it was my understanding that beam weapons in B5 were straight fire, not turret fire. I.E, the beam cannons could only fire in a straight line out from the nose of the ship. Only turrets with pulsing weapons could turn. Am I wrong?

Turrets with beams could also turn, ie Omega-X.
And the Sharlin's beams have been seen shooting elsewhere than straight ahead often. I think the Omega's main beams only shoot in a very narrow arc.

For the purposes of everybodys sanity...those beams won't have quite a limited arc but limited enough that it shouldn't bother anyone.
