Alan Lawrance made a couple posts on the VBB regarding a couple subjects. The first one being somke grenades:

I think smoke grenades are very cool. Being the lead designer on the game, let's say I have some influence on what weapons get in.

While that doesn't say smoke grenades will be in the game, I'd wager that they're at least on the wishlist

The second one is regarding RED and its cutscene making ability:

All the tools for producing in-game cutscenes will be made available with the game. It's very likely everything will be self-contained in the editor.
