What the hell is happening?

I have just almost finished mission 17 of my campaign and I play it for about 2.5 mins and it just drops me out to windows!

Why? Everything seems to work fine in previous missions, the only "new" bit really is the fact that the ACv Phaistos shoots now, instead of just decor?! Is it this that is causing the problem? I don't see why. It can't be too many ships, I have 5 squadrons of my own Alpha - Epsilon, and several Shivan wings. Its running nice and smoothly, then wham, I'm back in Windows, please help.

Check the count of the ships. Just place a new object and see what number your at.

Waves of wings can cause it too and add to the total number.

I doubt that a ship firing would cause the problem, unless its at the exact moment that the ship fired, the game crashed.

Is there a limit then on the number of ships, I do have a lot of wings in stand by but not too many actually in game at any one time.

ie. I have five wings of epsilon, (4 ships) but they only appear when all of the first wave of epsilons are dead? Do all these count?

And what is the highest amount then?

FS1 has a solid maximum ship amount cap. (over 50 and FS1 crashed, period, to "save us from bad mission design and pausing")

This isn't true in FS2, missions become more unstable past 50 ships, as well as missions become more unstable when over a certain file size. (I have yet to determine the exact number unfortunately since I don't have the time)

Just check and see if you're over 50 total ships (that includes ships in waves).
