What does everyone think of the best and worst eqiupment for Freespace 2? I think...
Fighter: Myrmidon or Ares
Bomber: Ursa or Boanerges
Cannon: Kayser or Mekhu
Missile: Tornado or Tempest
Bomb: Helios or Cyclops(duh)

And as for worst...
Fighter: Loki or Herc1
Bomber: Osiris, uncontested(even Zeus and Medusa have their uses)
Cannon: Lamprey or Prometheus R(tie)
Missile: Any TAG missile

Why does everyone think the Zeus is bad? The Osiris is by far the worst bomber. It can barely carry 7 cyclops, and is even slower than the Ursa. As for the Zeus being a bad bomber, I agree; I use it like the Ares, for strategic assault. and Scythe, why do you not like the Herc2? It's decent, although I don't particularly like it myself.

It's ugly (actually, it's yoogly, but ) and seems to be too slow for the amount of firepower it has.

I seriously like the Serapis too, mainly because Mekhu+Maxim cannon combo is really good, but it is pretty darn fragile. Of course, in the hands of a skilled pilot, you really don't need to worry about that. Also, I've been meaning to ask, what do you all think of the Thoth?(when used in FS2). And no, not all Vasudan ships rock

The Serapis is a zippy little ship, very fast and agile, and formidable when on your tail. However, it has VERY poor shields, and the hull plating doesn't last long either. Personally, my Vasudan interceptor of choice is the GVF Horus. And as for normal fighter, it was the Thoth (I think).
Bomber, probably the GVB Bakha, though I haven't flown Vasudan bombers much.

Actually, the number one ship I'd like to pilot (or more appropriately, command) is the GVD Hatshepsut. It looks absolutely l33t. Would be nice if it had exceptionally powerful beam turrets (say, white Sathanas-size stuff). But then again, it's a destroyer, not a juggernaut.

The Vasudan Ships, in game at least, seem to last twice as long as the Terran ones, and they do indeed do more damage, which is probably why they only got 5 new ships in the new game. The Terrans on the other hand, who have exceptionally weak ships, seem to need to get 30 new ships .

Think out this little scenario, the Great war went on for 14 years, and not a single advancement had been made. The Terrans had atleast 20 ship types, and the Vasudans had 18 (about) They merge against shivans, and now theres the:

Orion
Hades
Hecate


But what do the Vasudans have?

Typhon
Hatshepsut
Ankh

yeah thats right, a cheap little sentry...

think about them apples...

I always thought Vasudan ships were more lightly armored than their Terran counterparts.. maybe it's just me. However, I did create a Terran-Vasudan capship battle in FRED2 with the following ships:

Terrans
1 Hecate
2 Deimos
3 Aeolus

Vasudans
1 Hatshepsut
2 Sobeks
3 Mentus

and so far the record is 4-1 Vasudans
