Can't get Missions to work

Probably down to the way I got the game setup, but I ould appreciate any advice!!!

I couldn't find a copy of Freespace 2 ANYWHERE... so I downloaded the version put up on the Underdogs site. I got hold of the stuff needed for hi-res, and the stock game works fine. I patched it up to 1.2 and added the Bablyon basic files.

I can't run any of hte missions though! when I start a campaign, it asks me to insert CD2 ... anyone know WHAt it is trying to access?

I figured it might be down to CD copy protection, so I added the 3.5 variant of the source code project ... and this now dumps me to the desktop when I try to start a campaign instead of asking for a CD

Can anyone help?

p.s. Don't just tell me to buy a copy of the game ... I would if I could !!!! If thats the only solution, please tell me WHY

p.p.s. Stock missions, plus missions for the standard game seem to run just fine!

Purchase a copy of the game. Warez doesn't work. Oh yes, I've reported you to Interplay and the ISDA. Have a nice day now.

IP, it is not exactly warez anymore. FS2 is available at Home of the Underdogs site, it is abandonware site. FS2 there is a ripped off version, including only necessary files. But you can add the missing vp's from somewhere else.

Volition does not mind, Interplay does not care. It is not officially abandonware but that it is.

ShadowPuppet, I am sorry but I have no experience of HOTU version of FS2, so I have no idea...

Gee... IP... you sure do know how to make people welcome ... are you representative of the attitude here, or just trying to hassle the newbie?

I don't deal in Warez ... and if I could ACTUALLY BUY A COPY I would .... but no-one is actually selling any.

The sourcecode is freely available, and if you want to report me to anyone else...whooo....I am scared.

If Interplay gave a ****, they would probably have asked the Underdogs to remove it ... and they haven't.

Yawn..... and I couldn't give a flying F**K for the ISDA whoever they may be ....

At least Mr Fury bothered to find some facts before shooting ......

Is there any point in me coming back here, or do you treat everybody who dares to post like this?

IP was just trying to be funny. Don't worry about him, the Vorlons can sometimes be little strange...

But as for your problem... Maybe this helps:

(I'm not entirely sure what is is. But apparently I don't need it so who cares )

Thanks Prophet. I think I had downloaded a file called tbp-core_1, plus the hi-res skins. I guess that must be version 1. I am now getting the 1.3 patch... Is that to be used instead of, or as well as the 'core' exe?

I want to get out there and mix-it in a Star FURY

p.s. IP is a Vorlon? That would explain it .... he probably needs to get out of that environment suit a bit more often and stretch his wings

Core Patch just patches a few items for R1 Core. You still need the core download

If it's asking specifically for the 2nd FS2 CD could be cause you don`t have any pilot files. As long as you have 1 in your FS2 directory when you start up the game will then let you make a new one and play the game.

Of course if you have only downloaded some of the TBP files that probably isn`t helping either

Also using open source3.5 along with tbp atm will dump to the desktop if the Olympus Corvette is in the mission so be aware of that fact aswell.Try using open 3.3 or 3.4 and it should work fine.

Downloaded the 1.3 files from the link Prophet posted, and it works

Haven't got the hi-res files to function, and I am getting an odd error in the debug window at start up ( music file related I think ) but it doesn't prevent me playing the game!

And very good it is too

Those Nial fighters are nasty, and very hard to keep targetted .... but I managed to bag a pair in the first mission, until I ran into the Minbari cruiser .... and got fried!

The Sharlin turning up was an unpleasant surprise too ...

Thanks again to all those who helped
