Freespace 2: Colossus?

Hi, a friend just gave me Freespace 2:Colossus, but I'm not sure how it's different from the main Freespace 2. When I quit it tells me to Buy the full version, and there's no FMV. Yet it's 640 MB, and doesn't look as stripped-down as a demo...

Is this a trial version? Thanks.

It contains all missions up to the Collusus ones, and it shipped with a number of Logitech joysticks.

And some computers too - tis one of the main reasons I got into FS2

Collossus also has all the ships from the full version of FS2, even stuff like the Sath that doesn't show p til after the misisons end, which makes it perfectly suitable for mods and stuff. Only problem is there's no FRED

I've never tried it but Installing FS2_Open would make up for the lack of FRED.

AFAIK there is enough of FS2 in Colossus to actually run FS2_Open.

Indeed.

Using some old rip, HOTU, Colussus, and some other resources, you can easily cobble together a full version. Collusu even has the command ani's and voices for the missions it contains. You would basicly need a new campaign file, some mission files, and a FRED/SCP exe, and the ripped HOTU files, and you've got a working version.

I know that. I mean even without extra VP's.

Just Colossus and SCP.

I'm not sure of the effect of running the main camp without the command ani files being present at all, so it might be icky to do it without 1kb rips.

Again I was thinking more for running mods etc. Since all the ships are in the vp files Colossus should be more than capable of running any mods.

It probably could run SCP versions of those mods too

It is - I played Derelict with Colossus, and there's nothing missing that the SCP calls for.
