Question What's better...?

What's better:
A- A Destroyer with four Bgreen, 4000 HP, and 10 mps max speed.
B- or 4 cruisers with one Bgreen, 1000 HP, and 40 MPS Max speed?

None of both have hangers.

You can't really compare things like that - not in FS.

It all depends on the mission...

Where else would you compare them?

What he's addressing is the age-old "few slow heavy units" vs "many swift light units" debate.

depends on what they're going after and how you place the ship(s)

Ok then, let me rephrase that:

You can't compare ships that way in a FS-style game. Those specs would work for a comparison in a strategy game, but in FS you need to take into account positioning angles for beams, etc - like Lt. Narol said.

It depends, but I would have four cruisers most of the time.

I'd have to go with Sun Tzu on this one and say superior numbers would win.

If two opposing forces are matched exactly for offence and defence, the side with greater agility/maneuverability would win.

B would definitely be the winner in a clean combat.

One or two of the cruiser could ram the destroyer to pieces and it still'd be some kind of victory...

SO, I`d say B solution is better.
It provides more maneuvrability an dperhaps firepower.
It`s more difficult to disarm or disable 4 ships than a single one, even a might one.
But of course it depends on the mission and tasks.
I prefer the lighter ships.

I prefer the B option.
I have a question:
If Beam A is shooted to CruiserA:
Beam A:
Damage:1
Lifetime.10
CruiserA:
Hitpoints:10

A- The cruiser will have a hull failure.
B- The cruiser will lose 10% of its hull integrity.

Posted by karajorma on 05-16-2002 10:01 PM:

B would probably win but win or lose it will definately lose at least one cruiser.
If A win they would do it with minimal casualties. Most of the crew are deep on board the ship and are only in danger when the ship actually blows up.

I wonder where your point is...if you need advice for a mission, just try it for yourself...

B: you cannot make an omelette without breaking eggs.

And with A there is a danger that single ship can easily be disabled /disarmed adn then easily destroyed.
Week ago I fought against a Hecate, and than two Deimos.
Hecate was relatively easy target- I was able to disarm her quite quickly, and these 2 Deimos were real nightmare.
