-- Armament errors? (http://volitionwatch.papageorgefamily/vwbb/showthread.php?threadid=9844)

Armament errors?

I noticed that some ships' weapons in TBP do not match the specs shown on B5Tech.com.

The B5Tech specs for the Aurora include 4 40mm and 2 35mm pulse cannons. The TBP Aurora has 4 40mm pulse cannons.

The B5Tech specs for the Badger include 6 40mm pulsecannons, 4 40mm plasma cannons, and 1 Gatling railgun, The TBP Badger has 6 gun mounts (one bank of 4, one bank of 2) that can accept 40mm or 60mm pulse cannons, plus 2 turreted 30mm pulse cannons.

The B5Tech specs for the Thunderbolt include 4 fire-linked 40mm pulse cannons and one laser/particle beam in the nose. The TBP T-Bolt has a single 45mm pulse cannon (does the 45mm pulse cannon even exist in B5?).

The Sharlin's antimatter gun is missing.

According to B5Tech, the Drakh Raider is a match for a Whitestar. A TBP Sharlin can go toe-to-toe with SIX Raiders and suffer only slight damage. I kind of doubt that in B5, a Sharlin could easily defeat six Whitestars. They also claim the Raider has "extremely powerful" weapons. Compared to a Sharlin' fusion beams, a Raider's beam is pretty lame.

For the most part...the stuff on B5Tech is totally bogus with regards to weapons. Three quarters of it doesn't even match whats present in the show's CGI which was our projects primary motivation.

In the show we see that the Aurora class has only two visibly firing guns. So we matched fire rate, visual, and put them in the game. The Thunderbolt, my personal favorite, evidently has what amounts to a chain gun...its the same power as the Aurora's pulse cannons but they are mounted in a rotary fashion that boosts its fire rate. Its a single shot but its very fast. Furthermore, never was a Thunderbolt seen with any beam weapon...and its for the most part against the shows canon to have a small fighter from a tech level such as Earths to have a beam weapon of any sort. Thunderbolts did mount missiles and used them against both ground targets (Severed Dreams) and space based targets (Crusade episode Every Night I Dream of Home).

The Badger we took some liberties with (only seen firing two guns with the other 4 not being fired in the CGI sequences) and based it a little more on the AoG version I believe. Also because the FS2 engine at that point was limited.

Sharlin was only ever seen firing beams in the CGI...thus ours has almost all beams (plus some small EMP short range guns).

Drakh Raiders I never had time to balance properly so thus they may not be as powerful as they should be. The AI is also pretty silly with a ship that big so its hard to say.

So you'll see that we match the visual aspect of the show as exactly as possible and take a few liberties where we felt it necessary for game balance or fun factor. B5Tech is way off on a limb for most of that stuff as far as I'm concerned however.

Since AoG is considered canon and B5Tech isn't I think you made the right choice there

The ani-matter cannon? Have you EVER seen any minbari ship firing that thing on the show?
There isn't even any emitter or gunport for such a weapon on a Sharlin!

Yes there are armament errors ........ on B5Tech

Then shouldn't it carry a version of the normal 40mmm pulse cannon that fires several times as fast, instead of a new 45mm weapon? The Aurora and T-bolt weapons in TBP differ in more than ROF.

The B5Tech entry for the Sharlin says that the Anti-Matter gun was at least mentioned in both AoG and the Thirdspace movie.

As for the Aurora, two pulse cannons do make more sense than 6 on a ship of that size. (I still don't understand why it's classified as a heavy fighter--it is only a little larger than a Sentri and dwarfed by a Thunderbolt or Frazi).

I never remember any mention in Thirdspace. AoG we certainly looked at on occasions when details were lacking from the show a it is considered semi-canon so that works for us. They balance their game and we balance ours as well so it evens out.

Once again, it came down to a visual and a gameplay element. The Sharlin was already a butt kicking giant blue fish in space

Aurora is probably a "heavy fighter" because of its durability VS the Sentri which is like the A5M Zero of a Japanese navy in 1941 and on which was (at the time) fast and manuverable but totally lacking any protection at all.

The aurora technically has 4 pulse cannons,2 underneath the top wing and two underneath the cockpit, according to the B5 security manual the 2 underneath the wing fire a more powerful shot but has alot longer recharge time, never seen them fire though in the show.

Perhaps they're just there to make the fury look scarier

Or maybe those are just places where you CAN put weapons.
Maybe that would have cost the 'furys to much speed and manuverbility, so they didn't put weapons in there.

Or those 2 could be something very different like devices to fix the aurora into its dockingpoint while entering/exiting hyperspace for avoiding damage.

Or someone forgot to tell the CGI-Team that those are weapons too

I think they got their info from the same bogus location

They do...but they could be standard shielding for a variety of systems including sensors and whatnot. They don't specifically HAVE to be weaponry...and I have no idea what the CGI guys were thinking when they did it. It may just have been...details...its not like it was the first time

I think the Pulse Cannons of the Omega, fire fowards, near the beam cannons must have an higher fire rate.

In the Episode with the fight near Proxima 3 you can see clearly that they fire faster.

Hmm, an another question ?

No Cockpits ???? Never ?
