Updated glow-/shinemap pack

Yay, the VWBB is back up....time to post something useful then.

I updated my TBP_maps.zip, corrected a typo of a glowmap, and made a bunch of new shinemaps. Actually I also redid the shinmaps from the previous zip.....since I didn't like them anymore.

So, it includes now shinemaps for the following ships: Aurora, Badger, Zephyr, Thunderbolt, Kestrel, Olypmus, Hyperion/Midwinter, Omega (including all nameplated variants). Check the readme for more details.

You can download it here

And some screenies:

Is this a .vp file or are the maps still seperate? Cause a .vp file would probably be a better way of doing this as that way it will work with any of the side campaigns like TEAS Janus and in the beginning.

I'll give it a try though

They're still seperate, but that shouldn't be a problem regarding campaigns, just throw them in your \maps folder.

But when FS2_open 3.6 is out, we should put together a proper SCP .vp for TBP. So we could pack the maps, the new fighterbeams and other stuff together in one noob-secure file.

Except that it is a problem. A little one which I can and will solve myself by building a vp but still a problem.

I play using the SCP and the -mod switch. So I tell it to look for my TBP folder. That works fine. Only problem is that I don't just play R2. I've also got In The Beginning and Heat em up installed as well as test missions for Honour of Omega.

Now the only way to stop them all conflicting with each other is to install them in their own Data folders within the TBP main folder. When I want to play a campaign I simply rename its folder to Data and play it.

The problem is that to play with the shine maps as individual files I'll need to copy them to each data folder which is a huge waste of disk space.

If I turn them into a vp file they instantly become available to whichever campaign I feel like playing

Anyway don't get the impression I'm complaining. Just saying why it's probably easier on people who download this if you do it as one .vp file

Ah, well I see your problem now. But I don't know how to make a .vp, I could try to find out...but when you make one anyway, feel free to share it.

You guys are going to love this..

A new version of FS2Open has been released.. To make this short, the last time I tried the shine maps on my 600mhz pc I got 4fps..

With this latest build using the shine maps i`m now getting 32fps woooohhhooooo ..

Those coders have out done themselfs this time
I urge everyone to try the new build

I've made .vp files before and I remember it being pretty easy. I think I'll write up what I do next time for the HLP Wiki.

man someone _REALY_ needs to reconvert thoe models with the auto-facet build of PCS.

(also some of the older models (hyperion, olympus) are realy starting to show some age, a poly bumped version of them would be realy nice)

whitelight, when was the last time you tried FSO, we've had working HTL builds sence before Chistmas.

Agreed....the Omega shows some ugly lightning artefacts (not to mention the now diamond-like Minbari ships), but who made the models originally ?

If no one else volounteers, I would do it, if someone could give me a short step-by-step explanation, how to do it. Starting from a auto-faceted model in TrueSpace, since I know how auto-faceting works, but I don't how to get it ingame.

Omega model was done essentially by Tomcat (he also did the fantastic textures)...I can't remember who converted it.

Some others were CptWhite and Tomcat or Eternal One and so on and so forth. Most of the main models are Tomcat.

Minbari Sharlin is Bobboau with some tweaks done later by a couple of people but essentially remains unchanged.

Nobodys quite sure if its supposed to be a beam or if it was a CGI screw up the only time it fired
