FreeSpace 2 Font

Does anyone know where I can download font as in the one's from Freespace2? Like the names of the ships written on their hull? Where can I get it?

There's 2... 'Stop' is the text on the orions. 'Bank Gothic Md Bt' is the in game text.

If you're looking for the title font, those are hand drawn... or modelled, something.

Not only does Goober have a copy of the font for download he also explains how to make your own Orion nameplates using it [URL=http://www.geocities.com/ipw47/nameplates.html]here[/URL]

If you lack the talent in PSP/Photoshop (not much is required!) then you can download a whole bunch of them from Dark's website (have a look in the modding section of my FAQ for a link).

GTD-Carthage

Aye! Thanks for helping me out!

I already got template saying "GTD-Carthage"!

Is it possible...

... to create a mod where the names of EVERY Terran Cruiser up to Destroyer ship in FS2 can be seen? I'm not saying people should make a template for every ship name possible. What I'm saying is that when a person types in a name in FRED, it would appear in the game like some handy stretchable automatic decal. If the name's too long, the name would be compressed. You know... to make the game look cooler than it already is!

Advice: don't split part your post between the title and the body. It's considered bad etiquette.

You can't really do that, and it would be a pain to implement anyway. But you can use the texture replacement system in fred2_open to make nameplates for the ships without requiring a separate table entry.

How can I replace the textures without making another table then?

You need to be using FS2_Open rather than FS2 Retail.

In FRED click on the Texture Replacement button.

The info says that I can't get the latest version of FS2_Open from the official site. Where can I get the newer version then?

Huh? The link I gave you has links to a guide on how to install it and links to all the latest files.

I got it! Although the TRS thing. Where in the FS2 directory do I paste the image I want to use as the replacement texture?

Well, got the FRED running but I can't run the game itself! When I downloaded the launcher, it was in a .rar file. My Unzip program doesn't seem to have the ability to extract from the .rar files. Can they be converted to .zip first?

Hmmmm... Nah. Nevermind. I'll try solving this one on my own.

Hehe. Thanks Shinobi! I got it! FS2_Open looks great! Although I got some errors when I tried extracting the media.vp (allows new graphics engine in the form of glowing ship windows and stuff) thing. You seem new here though. Too bad I missed FS2 when it's servers were still full of devoted pilots online.
