Holy. Living. ****. (minbari ships in TBP)

These things are insane. I pitted a Sharlin against a Hatshepsut and watched the Hatshepsut get its ass kicked big time. Then I flew a Nial against several wings of Shivan fighters. It was a massacre. I could reduce a Mara to scrap in a few hits. Now I know why the insane Battle of Sol mission I made was so easy despite having to take on dozens of bogeys at once--the two wings of Minbari fighters I put in one of the friendly wings (only Terran and Shivan ships were available to the player) tore the enemy apart. Even the EA ships have the upper hand against most GTVA fighters. This is ridiculous!

It's not ridiculous. FS2 ships aren't meant to fly against B5 ships.

Speaking of Minbari ships, does anyone know how to make the weapon shots alternate like on the Neutron GunB?

Posted by IPAndrews on 07-07-2003 07:21 AM:

Change the weapons on your Minbari ships to, as you say, the B versions. Play using Freespace Open. Despair as the Minbari suddenly become an order of magnitude more lethal than they were previously.

Alpha 1 was destroyed by a beam from Arjuna 4

Yow.

Anyway, the disparity between FS2 and B5 capital ships is nothing that a weapons change wouldn't fix. I changed the Juno in Liberation of Anaria to a Ravana and made every turret a beam. It ate the Vorchans for lunch and didn't even spit out the bones.

But your tip on how to get yourself blown up quick didn't answer my question on how to make weapon shots alternate left-right-left-right (or left-right-top-left-right-top in the Nial's case).

Oh yes, I see now. I completely missed the point of your question. Sorry about that. Bobboau will answer this just as soon as his radar picks it up. IceFire probably knows as well.

Weapons really seperate B5 from FS2 ships. Equip the Terran Mara with a double load out of Drakh Pulse Cannons, and the Minbari won't stand a chance.

(radar yes I'm pathetic)

for fighter beams look for the shots tag in the beam info section, that is how many beams will fire at once, in most cases you will want to set it to 1

Well, if you're bent on making a B5-FS2 combined mod, I'd suggest increasing the values of the FS2 ships' stats to compensate.

And a question: would certain B5 weapons (i.e EA 40mm pulse, most plasma guns) be effective against a FS2-type shield array? Considering that they had quite a fit with those Thirdspace vessels, I'd think that most weapons would be about as useful as an ML-16* against Shivan shields...

The weapons are as effective as those who make the game/show make them.

Thirdspace was less about the alien's superior technology than it was a device for exposing some of the hubris on the part of the Vorlons and the fact that they and the other firstones undoubtably left some things behind. Season 5, in a way expounded on this.

Ohhhhh yes, I remember. I was terrified when I first found out that I couldn't kill them...

Playing missions where the odds where totally against us (I supose ), was the thrill that kept me playing FS: The Great war for years...

Who doesn't remember the mission where you see the shivans ships for the first time?

Or the battle in "Class of Titans"?

That was almost epic... those were the days

That was fun. But they could be killed. 2 Words. Unguided Missles.

I had loaded my Apollo out with MX-50s, not Furies, the first time I played that mission.

Posted by Trivial Psychic on 07-11-2003 07:15 AM:

For that mission I usually pick the Valkyrie, grab a pair of ML-16s and a pair of Disruptors, then load up on Furys. Why the Disruptors you might ask, well I was looking through the table files and found that they have a better sheild dammage factor than the ML-16. Once I was playing that mission for the FS1->FS2 port and I did better on that mission than I'd ever done before... that is until I got killed. I managed to destroy all but one Shivan fighter, but one of my winmen clipped me and compromized my already weak hull. The best part, I'd taken out all the bombers and one of the fighters, and (get this), the science cruiser was still intact. I guess the mission wasn't written to include that a pilot could do that well, as when the science cruiser got to the jump node, it just sat there while we engaged the Shivans. I expect that if we'd managed to finish off the entire first wave of Shivans, either the science cruiser would have self destructed (scripted) or an overwhelmingly large number of Shivans would have jumped in to finnish it off. Personally, I think that in such an instance, a cool thing would have been to bring in a Cain or Lilith, or (gasp) even a Demon class to just scare the &$#@&^*$# out of the player and ensure the science cruiser bites the dust.

Later!

Have you ever looked at the Vasudan Cruiser with the external camaras when it is attackt by the shivans?
Sometimes it explodes (without being hit by bombs) when it has about 50% hull!
I guess that would be the same with the Faustus. After some time it would just blow up no matter if its hit or not.

And another great mission is the one where the Galatea gets destroyed (don't know the name). When I played it for the first time and the best ship of the GTA was destroyed with 2 or 3 salvos I sat there paralysed for a few seconds before going against the Lucifer in a fury (without success of course).

Posted by FlakBait on 07-11-2003 07:21 PM:

I learned the hard way in that mission that I shouldn't attack the Lucifer's main beam turrets.

Were you flying the actual FS1 version, or the port to FS2? I like the port version of the Lucifer much better, as it carries full fledge beam cannons rather than that stupid Shivan Super Laser thing, and it actually has shields instead of just being selected as "Invulnerable" as in FS1.

I never played the port. Yes the Shivan Super-Laser was pretty dumb. Which makes getting killed by it hurt more.
