A really dumb question - probably
Hi all
Having finally found Freespace 2 via HOTU and installed TBP R2 a question occurs to me.
Is R2 an update of R1 or was the old version a completely different campaign etc?
If so where can I find it? And will it still work?
Pardon my ignorance - there is probably a hole in my mind
R2 is an "upgrade" in many ways from R1. Presently the campaign in R1 does not work properly in R2 so do not bother with it for now. We'll have an upgraded versions of the old R1 campaign hopefully ready for our patch for R2.

If you mean with Upgrade, that you have to install R1 before installing R2 the answer is no.
There are 2 different packages, one to update R1 to R2 and the second to install onto a "clean" FS2.
But if you don't know R1, you should try to get it. The Campaign is short but a real "must have played" for B5 fans
.
Then you can say "I was at the Battle of the Line"
