For us europeans, the cheapest source is once again amazon.de:
http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00008GQF1/

39.99 e, not bad if you can put up with the german packaging... The discs themselves are identical to other european releases.

Too bad I still don't have a credit card - haven't gotten the first season set either, even though they've now reprinted the disc that had errors. Not sure if they're still selling the faulty one with the box, thus still requiring a switch later, though...

Not if youv'e got a 32" widescreen TV with 5:1 surround sound like I have

I got my season 1 discs a few days ago from amazon. No scratches, no corrupt discs, excellent picture quality

No no, the picture quality is poor. The transfer is quite bad, or at least it could have been done better. Aside from the fact that at least season 1 transfer had annoying artifacts (dirt, hairs, film artifacts), the main problem is that while live action scenes were filmed in anamorphic widescreen, all the CGI and composite scenes were only done in 4:3 format. Converting 4:3 material into anamorphic widescreen results in degraded quality, and we lose picture information from top and/or bottom. Also, there are other very ugly problems...

Leopold (Henrik Herranen) wrote about this long ago before the season box sets were announced, predicting all these problems. He's a professional in signal processing and a video technology enthusiast, and this was discussed from time to time on an IRC channel with us technical-minded b5 fans... Recently he took the time to reverse-engineer some season 1 material and he proved his predictions, showing (again) how it ought to be done. Too bad no-one ever listens to Zathras... and too bad there aren't as skilled people with such standards (or enough resources?) making the transfers.

You guys are picky.

B5 on DVD= more joy than anything. Buy it without hesitation. No 10000 vhs tapes liein around in full screne garbage format *pukes* and lack of 5.1

Hey Jokoto!
You don't need a creditcard, all you need is a giro account.

I ordered mine using dvdpricesearch.com

Nifty site.

Do you guys ever leave the house?

I went to A&B sound and bought it before it will even ship for you guys.

Now.......anyone get this for season1 and 2 box-set so far.....:

After a preview of the episode, it goes to the jumpgate forming a jump-point and makes this hideous sound....kinda like:

"Geeeeaaaaarrrrrroooooohhhhhwwwwww"

If you hear it on your DVDs you'll understand. WTF is it? Embaressed me when showin my friends a preview hehe, then "BLEAAAA" or whatever.

I don't.
It wouldn't help either, they're not being released here. According to rastb5m, some people have gotten them from stores fast, and some got them even faster through pre-orders.

Mungo: Giro account? According to brief googling it's some kind of, umm, debit or cashing account, or something... Won't help though, I've never heard of it before and I doubt it's international, I think I would have heard of it already if it worked from here (Finland).

I sure wish people would stop complaning about what they did wrong about the tranfer to DVD. yall should be glad they even bothered to do that. I love Babylon 5 but at the moment its dieing . I went to my local Future Shop today and saw Season 2 on sale for $77.99... canadian! I was tempted to buy it, but I already have most of Babylon 5 on tape. I was recording it when it was on our Sci-Fi channel here in Canada a few years ago. I managed to squeeze each season onto 3 T-120 tapes by removing intro, credits, and commercials. Unfortunately I could never get the crown juel of the collection... the tail end of Season 3. So I guess I'll have to wait until it comes out and grab it from Future Shop if they're selling it below cost again.

Later!

@ Jokoto
I don't know the banking rules of Finland, i thought it's some thing international, ups always keeps on learning.
A Giro account is an account for fluent money, not so much rendits as a normal bank account but shorter "working" times for the money traffic (and you get a nice card with a nice number and with this you can buy in the net till your cash is out )
