New Release, New Requirements

Are the basic system requirements going to increase, as you make more Releases ?. You have said, that the models you use are slightly more demanding than in FS2, and I have seen pretty impressive Screens here in Forum (smoothed Nial, G.O.D, and Olympus etc...)

Like before, minimum requirements are slightly over the minimums of FS2.

It is howewer unclear at the moment how Source Code Project will change all this. It may very well be that system requirements will increase at some point to require a more modern system.

you currently need a direct x 8 compatible card. You will also need more memory(although this is probably the least expensive upgrade you would have to make), and a some what modern processor to handle some of the stuff the GPU would not handle.

General Requirements (for a decent looking game):

500Mhz CPU
Geforce 2 videocard, or equivalent ATI
128Mb RAM

Minimum Requirements (for a playable game):

300Mhz CPU
TNT videocard, or equivalent ATI
64Mb RAM

Optimum Requirements (for a really good looking game with settings on max)

1Ghz + CPU
GeForce 3 videocard, or equivalent ATI
256Mb RAM

If you put setting on minimum it would run on a low end system, but your graphic settings will have to be reduced considerably limiting the look of the game.

cptwhite: nVidia cards shouldn't be the benchmarking becausew they're unstable and prone to variability

Optimal Configuration:
Athlon XP 2000+
1GB PC2100
Radeon 7500
SB Live!

(my system in a nutshell)

---

once all the models are recompiled with PCS COB->POF 1.3.3+ there should be a global performance increase in the models, as it is several of the r2 models will already have been recompiled

Kazan - NVIDIA cards should be used as there is a much larger user base.

What are you talking about?

FreeSpace 2 runs on DirectX5. Basically, we're saying that the minimum 166mhz that FS2 says isn't probably going to be enough to be enjoyable but any budget system of today will do the trick more than nicely.

What he was meaning is that there's a problem saying "Geforce 3" or something because the speed of nvidia cards can vary a lot depending on other factors. I think.

It's your CPU that's more important. I've got a P2 500 and that's barely up to running TBP.

Yes FS2 is more cpu dependant than the latest 3d games which utilize the graphics card more.

Not quite entirely true either...I highly suspect that DX5 component will exist for some time to come and that OpenGL is another option being built into the project. On either account, having a DX8 enabled video card isn't terribly important either. My GeForce 2 isn't DX8...but thats not a problem for me with the DX8 builds of SCP.

So, lets not give the wrong impression. You will not need to upgrade anything if you've got a pretty good card that is a few years out of date.

Kazan, how are the nVidia cards craptacular? Hook me up with some evidence...I'm wavering on my potential purchase of a ATI Radeon 9700 because I've heard some bad things about compatability issues with sound cards and problems running some games. Looking for some kind of articles to read on either end of things.
