Summoner1 Demons to kill?

I have approached the Demon of Light in the library and the one in the swamp and I am having great difficulty in defeating either of them. I have managed to get the life bar of both Demons to virtually nil but Rosalind just keeps repeating the same crap "we are having no effect on him" where am I going wrong here? Oh BTW I hate using walkthroughs because I really like to try to and finish the game unaided but this is annoying me.

I enjoyed Summoner1 so much but getting stuck has really cheesed me off, so much so I have started Summoner2 until I can get this sorted out.
I have emailed a couple of people on the web but have recieved no replies so I decided to register here to see if any of you guys could help.....
BTW interesting site and these message boards will be a great reference for any future problems hopefully.

You are out of sequence somewhere.....

If Rosalind says anything about having to effect, then you need to go back and kill one of the other demons first.....

Check the story section on my site, the tasks are in the order they should be done.....
