-- Resolution ? (http://volitionwatch.papageorgefamily/vwbb/showthread.php?threadid=8590)

Resolution ?

I was wondering what resolution you are going to use in Release 2 ? Is it in high res (1024*768) ´, or will resolution need to be patched up first.

Is it possible, with the help of the source code, to increase or decrease the rez even more than FS2's 2 default ones? That would be good for people who don't want things 2 look crappy like in 640 x 480 but dont have the PC for 1024 x 768, then they could use 800 x 600. This would be a good thing to do, if it is possible, cuz the higher the rez, the better lookin it is

It is possible, pretty much everything is possible when you've got the source code. Another thing entirely is that if it is feasible.

Even if SCP manages to code support for higrer resolutions, you still need new interface graphics for each new resolution. Not worth it in my opinion. Unless SCP manages to code totally different resolution handling, and that most likely requires a lot of hard work. Feasible? Perhaps. Most likely not.

1024x768 interface graphics is 252 MB as a .vp file, and as a rar compressed file it is still 124 MB. Highrer resolutions would be even larger.

fury you are definately wrong on those file sizes, 30-40Mb is more likely.

but it would mean making about 1000+ misc. graphics pieces, piss off !

Even on slower systems, going 640x480 and 2x FSAA (full screen anti-aliasing) is a very feasible option. Doesn't look quite as good as 1024 but its alot better.

Lots of games have a low-res interface but a higher res game.
FS2 could feasibly have the hud graphics shifted to the correct place for higher resolutions than normal, while leaving the interface at 1024

Agreed thats the best solution, and i would be willing to make the changes there.

I wasn't exactly wrong, the vp file size is what I said it to be. 252 megabytes. Go check it yourself.

Of course methods in improving resolution support might also affect filesizes to either way, making them bigger or smaller. I am not coder and I don't know what methods there are.

The massive VP comes from the increased size of the interface animations, something TBP doesn't have in the quantity of FS2..
If someone were going to make a 1600x1200 FS2 interface, including anims, then I guess it would be huge, and that person would be a masochist. I vote that it should be CptWhite's next job
