(Summ I)question re: shard sword/items

Ok,
I've just finished the caverns at Wolong and I have a question.
Is the shard sword any good? Or is it just something to sell and get a wad of cash?
I can't see that the weapons and armor are too great.
I really love the game, BUT the weapons/armor could really be better.
For Flece, the cross bow seems to work just great. I paid a whole lot for the Heavy cross bow and it doesn't work one bit better.
The assassin's bow hasn't killed anyone with one blow yet.
Now some of the swords are better than others, but the big deal ones (shard sword and sword of maiming) don't seem to work much better than the more expensive one's I've bought.
And getting better armor doesn't seem to protect them much more either.
Am I doing something wrong? Or is this just something they (hopefully) have improved upon with Summoner II?
I love the way this game moves, I love the camera views - just the items aren't too exciting.
Meenie

I think you need to increase your characters' skills......

The thing with weapons and armour, is to check that the speed is good as well as the damage/protection. It's sometimes better to accept a lower damage weapon if it is fast, because your character will attack more effectively.......

The Shard Sword will be fine for the time being, but look out for something better.....

The weapons & armour are here if you want to check out the stats:

Remember speed is the key, check all your chars, just a slight change can make a lot of difference......
