Hi, guys!

Well, it's been over a year since I last dropped by to check on you guys.

I have a few questions:

1.) With the release of the source code, where do we stand on getting beam weapons made for fighters in this coming, or the next, release?

2.) And how about newtonian physics, or lazy newtonian as used by the Colony Wars games?

3.) Any other drastic changes over release one that we might see in the upcoming release, or subsequent ones?

Well:
1. bobboau is working on a special TBP build. he has some great success so far (even though I can't run the exe)
2. the newtonian physics is implementable but TBP will not be using it. There reasoning is that B5:IFH(free game) will be in newtonian and freespace will remain the same as the original game.
3. I am not really sure there is anything "different" but maybe the fact of a whole lot more ships and a better campaign.

we're not going to newtonian physics? it would be a piece of cake to implement, just a few pieces of code in fs2 and would have to use fs2open instead of stock...

Oh well, you guys must know best

Haha, wrong. The AI barfs when using Newtonian physics, so unless you'd care to rewrite the AI code entirely...

Probably not newtonian...but we'd like to implement some manuvers. Slide strafe for instance.

And if you want to know how slide strafe works then you should try and play Tachyon The Fringe.

And the source code changes will be there sooner or later but not in Release 2. I think?

Yesyes! Slide is much better than a punch of lateral controls. People only got two hands and ten fingers (At least around here, usually), but when you have to use 10 buttons in a joystick, assorted keyboard shortcuts, reach for pizza from the table behind you and at the same time try to get a lock on a Starfury... Nope, doesn't work well, even with three hands I imagine.
And there is about two good things in Tachyon, Bruce Campbell and the slide button.
