FreeSpace 2 Question

Hi,

I just had a thought,

The Shivans were created in the flux of subspace and in turn are sensative to subspace disterbances.

When the GTVA destroyed the Knossos Subspace portal with the Meson Bombs so that the Sathanas couldn't jump in, but it still did, what if the Shivans don't need the node to be active to travel through it?

I mean, Terrans and Vasudans need it to be active, but what if the Shivans can travel through a subspace node, even if it was collapsed or not.???

Because i have read that the Shivans have VERY advanced Subspace Technologies.

That's interesting, I liked the idea I once read best that they were either a race which evolved in zero G (and that itself could lead to various possibilites I could think of ), or that they were actually created by another race (which too could be for various reasons).

but your idea sounds good! has it ever been said if the shivan ships are part organic or all technology? I think they should be part organic, it'd give more weight the the evovled in space theory.

As far as Terrans and Vasudans know (which isnt much), Shivans may have evolved in zero-G. The fact that Shivans dont need a subspace node at all is something brought to attention when speaking of the Ross 128 encounter. At the time, there were only 2 ways in and out of the system --- Laramis (which wasnt discovered until later in Great War, where the Ancient's scripts came from) and Delta Serpentis (in other words, only one node know to Terran and Vasudan intel at the time of the occurance). It is speculated that the Shivans entered Ross 128 (or had been there for a while) through a node undetectable to Terrans or Vasudans (or implicating it was too weak to detect). The Shivans may have built an artifical bridge from somewhere to here from there using their technology (refer to Capella). How advanced they really are we'll never know, unless GTVA declassifies GTI stuff (rumored to have captured live Shivans), or until we re(?)capture (another) live Shivan.

Ah ha! That's another point I've always been curious about was Ross128! And I didn't know about them being able to jump without nodes as I haven't played through FS2 yet, but I will soon, oh yes I will.

The Sathanas could jump in because the node had already stabilized, maybe they should have sent some Mesonbombs into the Knossos Node. As it seems the Shivans can do a jump between two systems without ab jumpnode but maybe that requires a lot of energy an they do it only in emergency situation (after the destruction of capella for example).

How do you know that the node stablized???

IT probably did collapze, i didn't see any GTVA ships use the portal.

i think the Shivans can enter subspace with or without the use of a node.

But there HAS to have at least been a node in the system for it to work.

dead or alive.

makes you feel worried for the GTVA eh?

They say that in the game, the Knossos node has already been stabilized so that the destruction had no effect.

What an amazing lack of logic you`re using here. You claim the node collapsed so the shivans must be able to travel without a node and yet offer no explaination for how the GTVA got back into the nebula if you`re correct.

Have you forgotten that there are a bunch of missions set in the nebula AFTER the first sathanas (and knossos) are destroyed.

Oh Yeh,

I forgot about those missions. :/

i still think that the shivans can enter subspace without nodes as long as there was a node to begin with.

It's just that the Shivans can use nodes way too unstable for Terran and Vasudan travel, so it can seem that they come from nowhere, as the unstable nodes may not even be detected by Terran/Vasudan sensors. Otherwise, the Lucifer fleet may have just jumped straight to Sol.
However, I still don't get where the Sathanes went at the end of FS2, as an intra-system jump would not take you away from a nova. Maybe they jumped to a jump node outlying Capella and then double-jumped through the jump node back to Shivan-controlled space (try saying that 3 times fast!) or perhaps they can go anywhere? Who knows?
