Hello all! First... I'd like to congradulate all of the hard working people who have so selflessly dedicated considerable and countless hours in the proliferation of this incredible game FS2. Second... I have a serious request for information concerning FS2. I am a direct marketer. You have probably seen the late night infomercials with a wild assortment of products and services. I am in a unique position to put just about whatever tpyr of product on TV that I want. After playing the FS2 game for I don't know how many thousands of hours, I found that virtually every person I turned this product on to totally fell in love with it. Even none gamers were blown away by its techical merit and story writers in my field have drooled over the overall idea of it.
I want to work with a group pf people on putting a FS2 game and series of additional campaigns on a disc and market it in an infomercial format. Now many of you who have never been exposed to that level of marketing may not believe that products in retail require way to much marketing to be very effective. The ones that do incredible volumes have TV as a medium to proliferate the sales mechanism.
The last campaign I worked on generated more than 20,000 calls per day in response for over 3 months straight. And yes you did read that correctly... twenty thousand calls per day. I know how to do this and would welcome the opportunity to talk with developers of FS2 and other FS2 campaign developers alike.
Can someone help me find the person or prsons responsible for making anykind of decisions concerning FS2 and the ability to market the product. I tried unsuccessfully when I called Volition. They told me they do not market the product. They pointed me to THQ who were equally confused about the product as well. The person I spoke to was part of the executive staff and said they had never even heard of FS2. WOW! Probably why it didn't do that well in its initial launch.
I'd like to get some serious help on this as I truly believe ther is a huge untapped market for his product as well as additional works from many of you.
Drop me a line at drmedia1@earthlink.net with any help or info. Thank you all, Derek A.K.A (Angels Rage)

Volition and Interplay broke up, Interplay got the FreeSpace rights, Volition got stuck with supporting FreeSpace2 a cow that doesn't produce milk because of poor advertizing/marketing, Interplay don't want to sell the rights back (or Volition never asked), FreeSpace3 will never be made, FreeSpace as a story in general is a m00t point, but you might wanna click interplay.com and talk to them about the FreeSpace rights and the right to distribute the thing...
Well that's all I know anyway...

Interplay may not know what it is either...they barely did when they marketed the thing. I think they, in their twisted corporate minds thought that FS2 and Klingon Academy were "competing" products and they screwed over the good one and marketed the bad one because it was Star Trek.
But Interplay are the people who hold the rights to FS2 in terms of marketing and publishing as far as I know.
And good luck...we all want to see FS2 get the credit it deserved the first time out.

So you're suggesting making new campaigns? Because putting currently existing ones onto a CD would open up a major can of worms when it came to splitting up the money - how do you decide , for example, if a FREDder is worth more than a MODder, or if a voice actor should be paid in the same manner as a campaign director. If you can think of a way around this though, I'd suggest you wait at least a few months for all the great campaigns currently in production to be completed - if this got off the ground, it'd be a great incentive to finish them earlier...but then again, if you did, we'd not be able to DL them for free. So you are talking about making new campaigns right?
(Sorry for that last post - It's late

Interplay is dying as it is, getting the rights to FS2 may not be that difficult; if I remember correctly they've already been delisted from the stock exchange. As for sticking campaigns on a cd and marketting it...I must say that I am divided; as a project leader myself, the prospect of publicity (both for the campaign as well as the team) is an attractive one, perhaps more so than any money that might be made off of it; but as a devout FS2 player, not being able to download campaigns such as BWO or Reciprocity for free is a severe blow.
I like the idea overall, but I cannot speak for the rest of my team.

Hey, i love Star Trek......but seriously, i HATED Klingon Academy.
Even when you cloak when fighting, the damn Feds can see you while cloaked. unrealistic.
Also, i found it too hard to play, even on Easy.
FreeSpace 2 is the best Space Sim, i have EVER played.
Interplay are just jealous that Volition does a better job then them so they are acting like children and they need to grow up.

I haven't read this whole thread but the pay to all the people involved with the mod is simple. Give each person a copy and then they can sell it where they live. This gives each person a share of the profits (provided they want to sell it and do) and you don't have to work with other nasty stuff if one person was in charge of the money.
(from HLPBB)
IMO about selling campaigns. I think it'd a cool idea. But about the legal stuff. I could just say that I'm charging you for the CD, s + h, and any documantion that goes with it. While not charging you for the campaign. Simple. This is what the Linux people did/still do with thier software when selling it at Wal-Mart or some other retail store.

'Alternate Reality' a FS2 and maybe a FS1 campaign. - Got some new interface art for every ship and weapon the Demo uses.

One more thing. According to the licence, all fan made material for Freespace, including MODs, missions, campaigns and any kind of artwork is FREE. By charging for all this stuff, you violate the licence and we as the Freespace community don't accept that.
