What's wrong with that?
What's wrong with that?
Yeah. It really doesn't change much... Easier to build story with good charters and sometimes makes campaign much better.

Main campaign is character based....always has been. I always thought that the best part of Derelict was that your wingman had a character...and we've upped the ante with that.
BWO would be entirely pointless without the player being a character.

I love playing another character. It's easy to fall into the universe when you take on a different persona. I always thought that was FS's biggest problem. I like it, and I can wait to play the demo. Hey, speaking of characters, will Mackie be back? or is it top secret?

Well playing the role of a character doesn't bother me although I did kind of like FS's approach to not making you be someone. Best character I've played as in any game goes to Garret in Thief's I and II.

It's probably just personal prejudice, but I hate character based storylines. FS2 was designed to be an impersonal game, you can't interact with your wingmates, or send messages to them, or affect the mission in any ways other than completing or failing to complete your mission objectives. I just don't think that that's the sort of situation where player characters are practical. I have no problem with NPCs, in fact I like them. But what I really liked about FS2 was the fact that Alpha 1 was just that, Alpha 1, a faceless, nameless player that everyone could relate to in the same way - not at all. It sort of made the player more like the character. I haven't really said this too well. Ah well. Just me I suppose

It seems like a fun Idea...
But now you won't be trampled in the mud as harshly as in FSI & II...You thought you got it made in FSI, and then the Shivans came around.
In FSII you got beamcannons and then you met milady Ravana.
The Colossus arrives and you fel all-powerful
And then it is taken out in a matter of seconds by a Sathanas...
It had a feeling of reality, unlike other spacesims.
Will you be rubbed down into the mud like that too?

Not in exactly the same way...but I'd say there are a number of trauma's that the player character will have to go through. I won't reveal them of course...but it should feel alot like his whole world is falling apart around him.
