What is spam anymore

Well I am not sure what spam is anymore. I have not been here for a while , matter of fact since the opening of this board. It seems then that I encountered ( or got a feeling ) that a kind of gorilla faction was running the place. Though it may have not been that way, the harshness of the admins in the beginning just brought anger to the board.

While, running a board with a variation of ages can be quite a challenge. Also, I understand there are a few bad apples out there. Starting the way it did has just brought some to the front and labeled others as such. When I come to a board I look for a few things to spark my interest.

1. good Content
2. good people
3. A place to get answers
4. A place to talk
5. some kind of moderation

Now I know, that individuals sense of topics can vary greatly. For instance, I think about Red Faction.. I post in Red Faction. Though it may be a general post such as Bored Bored Bored..I am looking for some interaction from the Red Faction community. While the B.B.B. may not be a valid topic, I hope it would spark conversation that would in turn produce constructive talk.

Now I am not saying that putting others/clans down will ever produce anything but unproductive talk, a distinction should be made by the admin to either calmly close the conversation by a post or out right lock it. While locking it will bring confrontation, if the post is that aggressive, then nothing less should be done.

While I look at things from a different view, say a middle type, I am always poised to sway to the bad side and good side. I would look at a spam topic..lets say ** Hey I want you to click on this link so I can get hits** obvious spam...Or **hey guys look at my new site** spam? not sure. If the site is RF related and has changed, new, or never mentioned, it adds to the community. If the admin shuts that down as spam..it will only return negative results for the person, people, game, and community.

I know I only pop in here once in a while, but when I do, I see well... confrontation. So justified some not in my eyes; but hey, its not my board. I would have to make a suggestion though. To the admins/admin. get some people who have children or even teenagers to mod the board, if you don't already, you will have better results. You will find the majority, as you know, of the conflict comes from the younger population, only inflated by the older population. A mod ( moderator ) should be able to keep the ( flaming ) to a decent low..however I understand it will never go away.

The Red faction community is alive still with more new players and allot of old ones lurking in the shadows. The old ones back away when they can find a place to even talk with out being kicked to the curb.

Now I know there is email and chat rooms and other forms of communication in the world, but I am sorry SW Bell took the Red Faction section out of the yellow pages, and unfortunately, goggle took out all the emails of the current Red Faction players. So if I want to spark RF conversation, I come to the RF main community..where is that? well I hope here. Now there are a few others taking off, but here is RF home, it should be treated with a warm welcome.

Well my whole point in coming here was to tell people hi, I have seen many new great maps out in the RF community. I am releasing a new one soon, and I have started a top game/clans sites for mainly the RF community. This will enable all the sites to be easily found. Even today there are new sites on the web that I have not seen. Why, because there is no way for me to know about them. So I started the Top Gaming Sites, to give us a place. While it is in constant change, I am trying to suit the needs and looks of the RF community, with using the same site images and game images we are all used to seeing.

So I am getting a kind of neutral look going, but my imagination lacks a little..ummm imagination lol...So I am coming along. It is nice to come here, and I will start to make my daily pilgrimage here to post ..hope to see you all soon here and the top RF sites..and looking forward to my new lame map lol..ohh did I mention I am actually doing a CTF version of it :-).. truefighters.net

What you say is pretty much how I see it as well. I will try and clear some things up...I'm also going to put more effort into helping communities here on Volition Watch during the next few months. There's some great people here and although there is some conflict, there is a fair amount to be bitter about and there is some hostility that will resound from that.

Let me make it clear that not everything HAS to be directly on topic...if something strikes your fancy (a new video card, a new game, something worth discussing because its important to FPS players) then post it. The B.B.B. topic was not acceptable, but it could have been. I can't really draw an exact line in the sand, but at this point, I think people are misinterpreting our hard line stance in a few cases with a more general hardline on everything. Talk, have fun, and promote your website if you want...but don't be hostile about it (ie. check out my website because its better than this one!).

Again, I'm going to try and help move things along in here a little better. Do some re-organization, maybe try and establish some sort of informal 'Review Review' system (ie. check the latest from IGN, was it worth it? Tell us!). There's lots to do...people just have to move it along.

Please return more often Vix. This is the perfect setting for pimping sites and maps and clans. There is still so much positive out in the RF community. I for one, would like to see more of that here.

What is spam? A canned meat product that no one eats but everyone has a can of in their pantry.

my view on "spam" (in the context of "advertising" on this bulletin board) -- I don't like it. I can see where it is beneficial to the community, but personally, I prefer that the "shameless plug" be kept to a minimum ... and I view it (again, personally) as a flat out insult if the post is ONLY about the plug.

there are times when this doesn't apply, such as ... "hey, do you know where I can get a bunch of good RF stuff??" ... then a link wouldn't be viewed badly ... but the "HEY GO TO MY SITE" threads won't be tolerated ... understand where I'm coming from?

we (as in, VW staffers) are really easy to get along with ... some people just don't understand our sense of humor, which is why this place is unique. thank you for your comments

I just posted about this kind of situation, ( talking in text ) on another bb board a few days back.

People can use their sense of perception many ways then it comes to the internet and as I say "Text Conversations". My sense or humor is really warped and sometimes down right over peoples heads. Now the people who know me get it or ignore me and the people who don't think I am a butt head or stupid.

The internet has brought the world to us in a different way then the majority of us are used to. I myself just started with the pc thing about 9 years ago when it was new. MY kids, and the younger generation have had it their whole lives. They talk, play and even learn on these things. Myself in the other hand, did not even get to really play with pcs until college.

So the majority grew up with telephones and visual communication, ohh and this thing call written communication ( I heard it still does exist ) and the younger generations grew up with the net. So now we have a mess of diff ways of interpreting things. BTW did I mention that there is this game called Red Faction? I am try to get a CTF part of my clan started is anyone is interested..go to my web site. I can type a sentence and just by the age of the person draw a different reaction. Hmm let me try..

Well some of us may know what I am talking about some not. It is all perception and generation. Also, some knowledgeable people would know... ( there's one there ) so if you don't know, that means you stupid? text can imply a million things, that's why those things that you read for pleasure are so great..the imagination runs wild.

Well guess what..it does here too lol..so just don't assume ignorance, anger, or even intelligence just be easy and remember were all not thinking the same thing...well men do lol..i think so at least...I know much of this is general talk, however I am replying to the above replies so I can not really be to RF specific.. Did I mention, that there is a new clan -=TS=- or something like that :-)..well enough talking back to work :-)

The other point of the plugs was to capture, the moment for posting such a long message about a BB in an RF section. Thje point i was making about moderators and users is all the posts are an opinion taken either for its true meaning or a perception about what the reader means. hehe coming soon to a board near you VIX-BOT2002 lol...Lets just say when my mind gets going, along with about 5 cups of coffee, 2 donuts and a desk job..I have to speak what it tells me lol. An honestly, the web site plugs we put there as a joke. You could say it was like a jab in the ribs at what I thought and perceived to be going on.

I try not to make a post just to post about a site. Honestly, I really dont care about hits to my site. I do it as a hobby and a place to put the maps i run on my cheesy slow server. The web page is a product of people asking where to go to get the map I was playing. The you ahve to tell them where to go, what page, how many letters down ect. If you have done this you know my anguish. Through that, some how the clan thing started, now its been work ever since. I look forward to decent conversation that also offers rewards lol, like a post number. Why, I dont know, it is crazy that people just post to get a number to go up. It seems that humanity has found one more way to give a value to nothing. Yet, everyone wants a high number.

So now, I find myself pondering the purpose of the number. I wonder, if there were no numbers here would people post as much? I guess it all goes back to Red Faction. We pay a game for enjoyment, like sports, then we assign a value to it. Now people actually make money going to tournements ( sp dont care ) to play video games, funny isnt it. While I was a teenager, we begged our dad to take us to the arcade. For 25 cents YES 25 cents we could play the best game the world had to offer. Antone remember Dragons Lair? wow that was top of the line. 50 cents WOW! my Dad had a cow. If he would have dished out the cash, id be making money paying games GESH!

So to all your kids, make sure your parent give you the funds, you could be doing this for a living lol. Back to RF. This game has a simplicity that alot of other 1st persons dont have along with geo mod, its cool, so thats why I play and make maps. Well once again its late and not enough coffee to go on.

"OMG.....I MADE A MAP!"

I'd stick the addy in my sig and post in every forum I belonged to. Then I would email it to everyone I know....including my Mommy.

I made a map once. It was a lil box with 2 spawn points, 1 light and no amour or weapons. I called it noname
