A request, if possible

I really hate to ask this, but i need someone to make a model for me. I am not sure if it is even possible to give fighters explosion debris, but here is my idea.

I need an Aurora, that when destroyed breaks up like any other ship BUT the cockpit stays intact, like the pilot bailed out at the last minute. For as much i would also need a seperate model of the seperated cockpit, that i can make into a targetable "cargo" model.

If anyone could be of help i would appreciate it greatly.

I believe the Starfury escape pod is already planned. Can't say about the rest though.

I think he means like a regular Aurora model without the cockpit, and the Aurora cockpit pod, both with docking ports in appropriate places, so they dock together to make the complete Aurora.

So, in a mission, make the cockpit invincible and untargetable, and when the fighter breaks up the pod is left floating around. Then add a few appropriate SEXPs to make it vulnerable, and a transport to retrieve it, etc... and voila! we have an instant search and rescue op for post-"Severed Dreams" missions.

Well...debris will be done at some point but probably not right away. I'm not sure exactly when...but its in the works.

But regardless of that...this can be done much easier than suggested. We have an escape pod model. The easy way to do it is have the Aurora escape pod jump in (without animation) when the ship is destroyed. Unlikely that anyone will notice the switch...

This is by far the more sensible thing to do. Listen to IceFire. The man is making sense.

The problem is that there is a limit to how close you can leap a ship in to another one (think it's 30 metres for a loki but changes depending on the type of fighter).
Unless that value is set by the tables (couldn`t find where) someone is going to spot that the escape pod leaps in 30 meters away from where the ship was destroyed.
Of course a source code change could solve that.

Not really, actually. The minimum distance two Auroras can appear from one another is 17 meters according to FRED2. Just have the escape pod appear as soon as the fighter is destroyed. The explosion would cover up its "mysterious" creation to all but the most meticulous eye (i.e. you spend to much time playing the game...time to go outside and play ).

Think X-Wing Alliance and the pilots that'd eject from fighters on occassion. You never noticed them out there until you ran through the target list. Remember blowing up those poor black-suited TIE pilots as they floated in space? No? Okay.

I remember

I used also blow up poor X-wing pilots , sometimes docking with 'em and bringing 'em back to base

Didn't get extra credit thou, I thinked mayby they reward me taking a captive or rescuing fellow pilot, but no

The other thing about scripting is that you can make sure that the player is over 600 meters away. Nobody will notice.

Volition did stuff like that all the time. But nobody noticed did they.

I know you can script it that way but what you can`t do is just leave the starfury to it and have the other pilot eject whenever the ship he's in is destroyed.

You have to make sure the player is far away enough to not notice. Guess I`m a perfectionist which is why a source code change would be nice.

Well, the only reason i suggested the debris configuration was to give all of the pilots blowing up starfurys peace of mind that they did not kill a fellow human, Sheridan would have wanted it that way, haha.
In any case, thank you all for the suggestions.
