I will always keep dissing Volition again and again and again....

Because if anyone runs business operations like they do, they deserve it.

A very tight business wouldnt create a game and then drop support on it becuase they couldnt fix their own problems. Its like they are trying to totally forget that they made a PC version.

A very tight business would understand and accept that they have messed up and would go to all means neccessary to at least try and fix it, not drop support and wipe it out of their minds.

Expand your minds...not every decision is made by the small crew at Volition. There are bigger players involved...and development studios like Volition only get to do what they are allowed to do.

Otherwise you guys would have a patch or a hundred and FreeSpace fans would have another game or two.

Do you guys believe that Volition would just drop support of a game like Red Faction? Obviously you do...but I think its time someone dropped a hint of doubt into your minds. Perhaps your anger is misplaced....and perhaps a combination of factors lead to the state that things are at now.

So, what is the point for all of you bitching at V to post in in forum called (if I'm not mistaken) "Volition Watch Bulletin Board"?

Every man, every woman, in every kind of job or work, has to worry about one thing. FOOD.

And the sad reality is, considering some infamous results in this particular domain:

Freespace = NO FOOD
Red Faction PC = NO FOOD
Britney Spear's breasts dance in stupid useless game = FOOD

We are the victims of our own choices, people... Or at least choices of a majority that likes Britney's boobs better than a really nice game.

Not even THQ is to be blamed for this.

Dragon, Jetbike, etc. are presently in the role of "angry consumer." We've all been there, not necessarily in games, but maybe for other things. Cars, restaurant service, etc.

As much as I hate to say it, dropping support on RF PC could actually be argued as a decision made by a very smart and tight business, contrary to what was argued earlier. If RF PC had been profitable and had the mod potential that Half Life did, THQ probably would have let V support it a lot longer because it would have kept making money.

Instead, the game probably reached whatever financial projections it was supposed to on PC, and they moved on. So should we. Had they hit their target amount of money quickly they probably would have kept going -- the fact that there was one patch indicates to me the game probably sold about what they expected for the time they worked on it. There's damage to the RF franchise on PC now, but that's probably been ruled as an acceptable loss given the throngs of PS2 gamers that will surely gobble up their exclusive sequel.

Dumb business? No. Smart. Just not friendly to us PC gamers. But we've lost the economic upper hand in video games, we probably make up a smaller percentage of the profits in the books at the end of the fiscal year than the console owners. If we grow as a PC gaming community we get the power back, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

Posted by IceFire on 07-16-2002 04:27 PM:

A man with open eyes. Thats pretty much exactly what my feelings were. I think that right now the consoles are taking up the bigger share of the market and PC stuff is only profitable for certain types of games with certain companies. The ideology is to support consoles now.

Without turning into a console war however...I do believe that the PC's in a year or two will be back ontop because of increased graphics abilities and ever shifting technology. But for now...thats the way things are and thats why I largely think that THQ decided to pull the plug on RF PC.

Alotta Drama on here, I feel for the moderators, personally, I would have zapped the accounts and had it end there. Point of post, word to V, I can completely see why they dropped the Axe on RF, perhaps if they got less bitching and moaning, the support and fixes for Rf could have been done better. The only reason I came it to drop props for a game I still play for some odd reason Hopefully we get a chance to peep RF2 on PC :-D

puhhhh Wha a waste of words again.

CeCe has the right to wait and see.
She is the only one, of all here on this forum, who actually spoken to the peeps who made RF and RF2.

I think demanding and knowing better is a thing you do when your 12/13 but some older and wiser you know that you have to accept things as the are... and bitching doesn't do the trick.

So lets do what CeCe says...be nice to them and be surportive. Then we (ppl who wanna have RF2 for PC) have the best change of really getting it!

Look at me I do my friendly waving to them here.
