Bug? with FS2 and Win XP

well, I installed WinXP, and everything was going fine and dandy and I couldn't have been happier with it...until I installed Freespace 2. I'd recently done a crapload of backdrops and planned to use them in the game (maybe play the whole thing through 3-4 more times) and I was incredibly excited.
I got into the game, whereupon everything seemed to slow down
I was looking at the animations and they seemed to be running in slow motion. I go into the game, and sure enough, at 1024x768x32 (d3d), the game's seconds were about 2 seconds our time. the whole game has slowed down. is there ANY way I can fix this? if not, I'd hate to shelve one of the best sci-fi sims every created

Not a WinXP issue. Not directly anyways.

Start by scaling back to 16bit color and see if that improves things. Then try 640x480. Then...try the compatability modes that WinXP lets you use. See if that helps.

More people seem to have problems with FS1 + XP rather than FS2.

As for me, both work perfectly on my XP machine.(and thats without the compatibility modes.)
