Well, in a series like Final Fantasy, all of the games share MANY many things (items and spells, GFs/aeons, enemies, Cid, etc...)
Now, if RFII doesn't share the same weapons, enemies, characters, basic storyline , or anything else besides the graphics engine, it shouldn't be called RFII, in my opinion.

....ah, but wait....Green Faction? Brown Faction? Blue Faction? *gags* ack. keep the name, give it a lengthy sub-title.

it's the earth side of the story, set a little bit after the mars rebelion, basicly it is going to try and fill the massive gaping plot hole that was RF1's story,
I wonder if it'll have voice acting that causes less brain damage than sniffing glue this time

Eh. Those have all been added after the series took off. I've played every FF up to and including IX, (yes, that includes the Japanese ones that were never released in the US) and Cids and Chocobos and stuffs only came later in the series. IV (FF2 in the US) was the first to introduce Summons, etc.

However my point is all of those are secondary to the first reason every FF keeps the FF name: Name Recognition.
Obviously, then, RF2 has it for the same reason.

Plus, it's set in the same fictional universe, so there's gotta be some tie-ins to the original we just don't know about yet.

Oh and, I dunno about you, but the basic storyline seems to be very similar.
Red Faction: A group of miners tries to overthrow evil bad guys.
Red Faction 2: A group of commandos tries to overthrow evil bad guys.

Hmmmm!

I'm really bastardizing the storyline there, but my point remains.

(obviously, my imagination has run away with me here, so just ignore my stupid babble)

(also, i do prefer to call them "Guardian Forces" as i believe it is the greatest name they have had yet.) (not that there's anythin wrong with aeons, but whatever they're called, ifrit still kicks ass, bwuaha )

I'm not sure about that -- I read somewhere that it didn't have a whole lot to do with the first one. Supposedly Earth has been taken over by a corrupt dictator dude and it's up to the RF to stop him. Sounded like it was completely separate.
