A really dumb FS2 newbie question

Greetings all:

I just picked up a (used) copy of FS2 last week via eBay. No documentation was included, unfortunately -- just the three disks -- but lucky for me the in-game tutorials are awesome. I've been dying to play this game since '99, and now I'm finally behind the controls and making short work of those Shivan bastards!

Anyway, my question has to do with FS2 cheat codes. The FS2 cheat code lists I've seen indicate that you must type "www.freespace2.com" in mission first before any cheats can be enabled. Umm... what? How does that work? When I try typing in "www..." nothing happens at all.

As much as I hate looking stupid, I am eager to get a few of these cheats going and elevate the carnage level a notch or two.

If anyone could please take pity on the clueless, I'd be most appreciative.

Um, I don't think it displays what you're typing, you just have to type it.

Then again I've never cheated in FS2, save vasudanswuvfishies, so... :shrug:

In the top left hand corner of the screen you'll see a message that says cheats enabled.

Thing to remember....

The freespace2.com cheat will NOT let you progress in the campaign mode!! So if I was just starting out I'd recommend setting the skill level to Very Easy (It IS). Enjoy your game,It's my favorite of all! (And I got just about all of 'em!!!)Also since you did not get a manual if you'd like I could scan the keychart for ya as I just found mine again. Again,enjoy and maybe we'll see ya on PXO!

You can use any and all official cheats in FS2 and still progress in a campaign. I use the cheat to force my ship's weapons sometimes and have no problems.

Could be wrong, but I think you also have to hold down the ` key (Just above the tab key) while you type in the code.

Actually I`m not in when it`s about the cheating in the Freespace 2 since I don`t use the cheat mode. I know only after placing new weapons I can`t view them in the tech room ( I`m thrown immediately back to the Windows) , but it`s not so big problem.

All right, beeing honest I don`t write all this stuff today for any reasonable purpose, it`s only an excersize because I have quite important exam in the very next week and the exam will be written in English. I hope only I`ll get through it.

Cheating? I only do it after I have completed a game on hard. The only way to enjoy it to the maxium.

(Plus, I don't believe in a 'dumb question'. How do you know its dumb until you've asked it? People who flame others for asking what they might see as a dumb question are fools themselves. Plus - a lot of people tend to think the same question but are afraid to ask it!)
