Omega Incident

This might be completely irrlelevant, but can anyone tell me what the "Omega Incident" was? It was refered to in "In The Beginning" when Sheridan was talking to the general about the captain of the Prometheus. I think it has something to do with a first contact, but not sure. If anyone could tell me, it would be appreciated.

I think it was diplomatic misunderstanding and Captain Jankowich opened fire toward civilians or Dilgari... It has been staying in dark or at least I dont have any info about it.

If I remember correctly, captain Jankowski opened fire at some Dilgar ships, Dilgars were not aggressive at that time. Court-martial declared Jankowski as guiltless. This was the Omega incident. The actual war against the Dilgar were declared later.

And since following information was not officially said anywhere in the actual show, I don't consider this as a spoiler:

Jankowski killed himself soon after he realized what he had done. (Started EA-Minbari war).

Of course I am not 100% sure if I have remembered this correctly. Heck, I don't even remember where I have read all this.

Oh right. Thanx. Just a follow up question now. Did the prometheus get destroyed during the war? This might be a really stupid question, but its asked now.

Most likely it was destroyed, there was not many EA capital ships that survived the Minbari onslaught.

Posted by Triggy on 05-26-2002 09:46 PM:

Jankowski committed suicide shortly after his court marshal ruling him responsible for the Minbari retaliation on the EA outpost. Shortly after the Prometheus goes out to battle with the rest of the fleet and gets fairly mullered (I have some stuff on the Prometheus' destruction in my campaign that I'm writing).

The Omega Incident was the first contact with the Dilgar in 2230 where Captain Jankowski called the Dilgar's bluff when they invaded Markab space. The Dilgar didn't expect the EA forces to open fire but of course, knowing Jankowski, they did and the EA's entry into the Dilgar War was assured.

Gunnery Seregant David McIntyre (A Late Delivery from Avalon) survived the war and, if Triggy and Mr. Fury are correct, the Prometheus' destruction. McIntyre was on board the Prometheus and fired the opening shots in the Earth-Minbari war. He would later end up to be one of 200 survivors at the Line.

I can't remember all of the details of that episode but is it possible that he was removed from active service immediately following the first contact due to his mental state?

Well, he was undoubtably a witness at the court-marshall. After that the crew of the Prometheus was probably split up to other commands. That would explain MacIntyre not being killed when the Prometheus was destoyed.

I tend to think it was destroyed even if we didn't see it, because the Minbari would undoubtably be gunning for the ship that killed Dukhat.

On a side note, Sheridan apparently never returned to command the EAS Lexington before the war ended. According to the novelization of In the Beginning, he was serving on board the EAS Hector (class unspecified) at the time of the Battle of the Line and the end of the war.

I thought he was captured by the Minbari when they found him abd Franklin at that abandoned listening post, together with the body of Lonann (?) and G'kar.
